I couldn't actually read the email - did anyone else have that problem? It wouldn't open.

Yep same here. I think that aspect of the MFD hadn't been setup yet.

The access cards in SS1 were like 4x6 pixels, so lord only knows that they were "really" supposed to be. What I do know is that they can't seem to decide what their aesthetic is. They want to go with a goofy faux-retro low-tech aesthetic, fine. But then things like the webcam-looking security cameras don't fit in with that at all.
Considering they're working with Robb Waters, I'd imagine they have SOME idea what it's supposed to look like.

It seems like a fair compromise between nostalgia and modern expectations. The most important focus of the development team is to hit the emotional notes of the original. If they do that, it will guide all other decisions (we hope).
My problem was with the graphics performance of the demo. With only screen resolution being adjustable, the best frame rate I could get was about 8 to 12 fps, before it started looking ugly. Even then the enemies skittered around the4 screen, always just ahead of the cross hairs.
My system isn't state of the art but it handles games like Far Cry 3 and Deadly Shadows quite easily, with lots of detail turned on. Why it choked on this demo is a bit of a mystery but I hope that being able to tweak more settings in the full game I can get better performance.
