Damnation was that spin-off Opeth with loads of acoustic guitars, right? Fuck that! When I'm rich and I can afford to stop buying ambient records I'm getting Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries and that's it unless I'm convinced. A goddamn music-listening Picasso like me can't just cover every damn base.
It's not an acoustic album - and it's not like the medeival/moody-blues stuff that they interject into their longer songs. I'll send you a sample, you'll see what I mean.
If you're going to actually get two albums though, get Blackwater Park and Damnation. Ghost Reveries is alright, but it's got all these Tool/Dream Theatre references, making it a little cheesy.

Cheers for the samples, I already had Windowpane, I fucking love the riff. The problem with a lot of this music is it is exceptionally cheesy. But it's fun to listen to because the guitar work is mentally good. To Rid The Disease and Closure is just the Diablo soundtrack with vocals. I can see why you geeks like this stuff.

some Mastodon even though no one recommended it (The enhanced version of Leviathan for six quid! good old amazon)
i have that one - the videos are pretty boring. i referred to Mastadon in my previous post, and it's got some decent stuff. The artwork is phenomenal IMHO, and it's better on the enhanced version.
i recommended it before, but if you don't have
Blessed Black Wings by High on Fire then you should be asking yourself what the holdup is ;)
