Gestalt: what Crispy said. :(
Judith: Maybe I'm dumb (maybe?!), but I'm not sure what you're trying to show. Is it the transporting when you open the door and at the top of the stairs?

Have you tried putting the harddrive in the freezer? Not that it works everytime, but it is fun to do.
Gestalt on 6/5/2006 at 08:07
Thanks for reminding me of that, Bardic. I'll try it tomorrow. I have an old 20 gig thing I can use if absolutely necessary, so at least there's something I can fall back on.

It looks like the FMs I had in the works are cancelled due to hard drive failure.
It really is worth backing up almost every time you make a significant change. Just use a multisession disc and burn off a copy of your work after every editing session.
Of course, I don't follow my own advice either. It's really difficult to work up good backup habits. Possibly the easiest regular thing to do is to mirror all files to another physical drive in a daily job, either using Windows' backup utility or one of the simple free ones like (
http://www.rdcomp.net/ezbackitup/) EZBack-it-up, for example. Given the price and size of hard disks these days, it's worth having a bit of data redundancy.

Yes, it's Morrowind-style trick, but without loading :) It uses the screen tinting along with teleporting the player "inside" the house. This might be useful for those who want to create big city sections and explorable houses, without affecting the framerate too much.
Here's the first part of the code:

Of course one has to copy it and make the same thing for getting out of the building.
Oh and about your poor HD, I use software called Magic Recovery Professional. It helped me a few times.

neat trick ... another advantage of seperating the interiors off in this way (aside from performance) is that they don't *have* to fit perfectly inside your your bsp, giving you a lot more freedom ...

Gestalt, I got the same problem some time ago and i managed to rescue my files with filescavenger. Pretty handy tool. I wish you the best of luck, I know how you feel... :erg:

True, true :) Btw. Is there any chance we'll see The bridge, let's say, this month? ;)

There is very little to do on it in fact, but my job has kind of got in the way lately, and I haven't been able to work on it for the last 3 or 4 weeks :(
I would say definately over the next couple of weeks though ...
