I played Samsara Room recently. One of those games where just slid down my game list and clicked a game at random. It was neither Rusty, nor Lake, nor Hotel, but from the first second in the first room I recognized it as part of the same series. They're just that characteristic. It was an okay distraction. They have the same kind of puzzles and the style is weird in a nice enough way.
I believe I backed myself into a position that broke the game though, since I didn't notice an entire category of clues until it was too late to go back and check them. Now I can't return to that place, and I can't go forward without that clue. The best I think I can do is start a new game and get that clue or watch a playthrough, but that seems like bad mission design that it holed me into that position at all. But I think of it as like a glorified Flash game, so I can't be too upset.

Yeah, there was an instance of that in Rusty Lake Hotel - something that I only recognised as a clue after the fact, when I was no longer able to return and view those clues. I agree, that's not particularly good design, especially since there was no strong reason not to allow the player to return to the rooms in question at this point, but like you, in a game of this scope I'm okay with it. At least they didn't dick the player around by randomising that particular thing, so I was able to get the solution from a Let's Play video.

I feel I have been caught in that loop where I buy a bunch of games in hopes that one of them sticks, but none of them do. How many games do you need to try before you realize that, perhaps, the problem is you? Here's some of my thoughts:
Persona 4 - I've started it a while ago and really enjoyed it. I usually skip all the "coming of ages" media because I don't find it too relatable, but this one did it for me. However, I reached the point where the real culprit reveals himself and is captured, followed by days/weeks of regular school work and.... I kinda lost steam? I get the vibe that it's not the end and there's bigger reveals, but the game has started feeling really stagnant. I jump back in a few times but it's still just more random school days so I dunno... maybe I should push myself?
Yakuza 0 - another one I've been planning on-and-off, which immediately gripped me with it's fantastic sense of immersion and hit me right in nostalgia (when I lived in Japan for school a decade ago, when I visited Korea a year ago). It's wacky and zany, and I can see why people love it so much. However...... I've never been into crime/gangster movies. I yawned over Godfather and the like. I think I'm on Chapter 7 now (where you get to buy up and manage real-estate properties) and while Goro is such a charming protagonist and the side-quests are adorable, I just can't bring myself to care about the whole Yakuza shenanigans.
Just Cause 2 - It was on a big sale and I heard all about it, so gave it a shot. Got thru the tutorial night mission which was... much jankier than the video's of the game led me to believe. Then I got to the part where you climb 2 huge towards to rescue a dude (fun) followed by a mission where you have to jump on cars to protect the dude in a chase. I think I tried it 3 times and lost each time. Something about it feels janky enough that's making it hard to play this section, and I dread re-starting from the start again. Haven't been motivated to try it again.
Rain on Your Parade - played the demo on Steam and it's a pretty forgettable half an hour. Very 1-dimensional characters and simplistic graphics just don't do it for me.
Far Cry 3 - I beat FC4 recently and absolutely loved it exactly for what it was ( a well polished, mindless shooty-shooty with a fantastic antagonist). I bought FC3 wanting more of the same and.... it is more of the same. A little too same. I literally feels like the same exact game in every way. Yikes.
Ni No Kuni - so I thought maybe what I need is a deep engrossing RPG world to sink it. Ni definitely looks fantastic but I realized I fucked up. IT's a Studio Giblhi game, and I am not a fan of studio gilbhi (cue audible gasp). But then Drippy came up and made fun of the kid for losing his mum so I thought ok, maybe I can get into this after all. Just Got to the first city and we'll see where it goes.

art of rally - only the 1996 season to go and I'm done with it. It's been my go-to chill-out-and-listen-to-some-music game lately. Listened to the entirety of the B-52's discography while playing it. Here's a (
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4UWciNIEZ1o6JDBJKdeVRW?si=S3PEcs-2SkmgTl-DfXpOHQ) Best of B-52's playlist I put together.
Haven - been enjoying this sci-fi RPG adventure romance. It's like an open-world exploration game with fun movement mechanics, JRPG-y combat and visual novel storytelling. I'm 10 hours in, think I'm getting close to the end.
Paper Beast - very beautiful and surprising VR adventure. I'm saying "wow" a lot while playing this. UNIRONICALLY, I might add!
Watch Dogs Legion - I had thumb-pain-issues a few weeks back so I stopped my playthrough of this and stuck more to mouse-based PC games, but now that's mostly over so I'm getting back to it. It's good, y'know.
Grim Fandango - Yeah I'm kinda late to the party on this one. I've dipped my toes in it a bit before but never stuck with it. I'm in the Casablanca bit now so I'm further in than I've ever gotten. It's very charming and funny.

Yeah man people put all kindsa junk on Steam these days. :tsktsk:
Ubisoft pretty much nailed the gameplay with FC3, and stuck with that exact formula for the next few games. New Dawn is a bit different, but not in a good way. It's got more leveling up buuuuullshit.

The second chapter, Rubacava, is in my opinion the best chapter of the game. I thought Grim Fandango was marvellous.

It really is, though it's entirely beyond me how anyone managed to finish it without a guide back in the day. That's true of all of those Lucasarts games, though.

Uncharted.
Finally got around to paint this, remastered for PS4. I've the 1st three in one digital purchase. It's... okay. I don't think it's aged that well, especially after just finishing TLOU2.
I've played a few remastered games and this is the first one that feels so dated.

Just finished Assassin's Creed 4 and moved onto the Freedom Cry DLC. Seems good so far. Will complete and move on to Rogue.
Fuck me this series is taking ages, but I just can't seem to stop coming back.

I was like that for a long time, but I burned out on Origins. I'm only now playing Odyssey, and there's definitely stuff to like, even if it'll never be a favourite of mine - but I'm already ready for it to be over, and I suspect that with the DLCs I'm barely one third into the game. The only way I could actually get excited about a new one of these would be if it was more focused and small scale (i.e. a city rather than a whole region), but it's unlikely they'll go back to that.
