Maybe you've already gathered this much, but just in case you haven't: A Short Hike is literally a very short game! You could easily rush through it in an hour if you like, or if you're like me and prefer to explore things more thoroughly, it might take you around two hours. So you might even play through it when Dark Souls is kicking you in the head and you want a little break from dragons and undead things. A Short Hike is a really fun experience and it's guaranteed to put a smile on your face. :D Let us know how you like it when you get around to playing it!

I
know I'll enjoy A Short Hike. That's why I haven't started it yet. This year is for grimdark games, including Dragon Quest Builders.
Edit: Okay, Dragon Quest Builders is grimbright, but you get the point.

If that's the case, you can not say you've done what you set out to if you don't play a bunch of Warhammer Fantasy and 40k games.

Okay, time to stop posting for a few days.

I'm back. Sorry. You reminded me of that time when a friend spontaneously launched into a half-hour explanation of orc sexuality. It started with, "Actually, orcs are fungi..."
And now, well, I'm just gonna wait until a Warhammer 40k game comes out that properly depicts their sexuality. Anything less than that would be outright disrespectful to the deep lore of that universe.

Btw, how was the original version different?
I just played through it again to refresh my memory. Any excuse.
Fishing definitely wasn't in, but I think that's the only actual mechanic they added (I'm not super sure about beachstickball though). The boat wasn't there, and if trashtag isle and Mystery Island were in the original version I never found them. The camper that lost their permit was added I'm pretty sure. Then there's some window dressing like the brick house with the tractor outside, although I might've just forgotten about that one. So nothing major, the broad strokes were all the same, just a bit of extra stuff to fill in the world.I guess I should spoiler tag that for the benefit of those who've yet to plumb the wonders of Hawk Peak Provincial Park, as minor as it is.

My second play through of
Kingdom Come is done at last. I don't even want to know how many hours I spent on it, but I've barely played anything else for the last three months, so that's easily more than a hundred hours. :o Anyway, KCD is a great game, but I'm happy that it's over at last. Now I have this empty feeling, and knowing that I'll probably never get back to this game anymore kind of makes it even worse.
It's hard to pick a new game to play after something like this. I installed a bunch of games that thought I might want to play, and then didn't want to play after all, but finally ended up playing
Bomber Crew.Inline Image:

Bomber Crew is kind of like
FTL but set in World War 2. Just a bit less RPG-y and perhaps more strategic? I love the aesthetics, the simple cartoon-like graphics are a perfect fit for this game. I wouldn't mind if the terrain was a bit more detailed though. The soldiers look so nice and happy that it feels bad to send them to war, but these are tough times.
There are two tutorial missions where the game teaches you the very basic stuff, like the different roles that your crew has and how to tag targets and take off, but that's about it. Mission three is the first proper mission, and I can tell you that it's
bloody goddamn difficult. Unlike FTL that takes off nice and slow so that you have time to learn how the game works (and your hopes are crushed only at the end), Bomber Crew throws you into the deep end right from the beginning. I'm playing a "low risk" mission in which I'm supposed to drop a supply package for a downed pilot, and since I'm still learning the controls and stuff, just dropping the package in the right spot would be challenging enough. But no, I get attacked by six German fighters, and I'm having a really hard time trying to keep up with everything that follows.
The combat is
really hectic, and the amount of micro-management makes it all quite stressful. I have to tag each enemy plane so that my gunners will attack them. I also have to tag waypoints to keep the plane flying on the right route. That's alright. Occasionally someone in the crew goes down injured, and I have to send another crew member to pick up the first aid kit, and then heal the injured guy. Ok, fine. When the plane gets damaged, I have to send the mechanic to fix the right spot, even though otherwise he might just be sitting on his chair doing nothing. Hmm. But when any of the gunners run out of ammo (the ammo belts don't last long) they'll just wait at their turret doing nothing, unless I send them to pick up more ammo and then back to their turret... well, that just crosses the line for me. There's so much happening on the screen at the same time already, it just all gets so chaotic and it's no longer that fun. And no, there's no pause.
I know that I would eventually learn how to play the game, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to spend that time on this right now. I'm dreading to see how difficult the harder missions are. I think I'm also making the game harder for myself because I insisted on playing with the gamepad - I have a feeling that KB+M might work better. In my last attempt I almost made it back to the home base; I managed to drop the supplies, shot down the enemy fighters, but for some reason my plane started losing altitude near London and then crashed into the River Thames. Out of fuel, maybe, I never figured that out. Only my navigator Frank Dudley survived the crash, the other six weren't so lucky. May their souls rest in peace.
