to me, the "WAYP" thread is pretty much the antithesis of what ttlg means to me, which is indepth discussion of topics of interest, not just flyby posts, which are rendered meaningless anyway by the sheer volume of other posts surrounding it.

It's not so much an attachment as it's just getting rid of something because a vocal minority- most of whom don't even come here anymore- doesn't like it doesn't sit well with me.
And PigLick, in-depth discussion does happen, with or without megathreads. It just happens much less because NOBODY IS AROUND ANYMORE. That and most people on TTLG nowadays people think pseudo-intellectual masturbation (read: pretty much a majority of posts about movies lately) qualifies as in-depth discussion.

I like the way my decision to close the thread has had this magical hamster-bollock reason attached to it.
Truth is:
I didn't like it - It's often a confusing mess, and leaves people in doubt as to where they read something. Stuff gets posted in there that deserves a thread but doesn't get one, and it was time for a change. Trying to get you guys to agree on anything is like playing a banjo with a lawnmower, you'll bitch at anything anyway, and I'm the moderator which means I put up with a whole load of shit you don't even see so I just did it. There! Suck it up or go away.
Reasons you conjured out of air:
a) I did it just to annoy you
b) I represent the MAN
c) I'm an INJUN and you're deadbeat Cowboys
d) I want 'old' ttlg back complete with Buglunch and comprehensive advise on how to care for my orchid I killed 6 years ago
e) A vocal minority cajoled me into it
f) To see what you would do
g) I like exerting power (lol)
