Shadowrun Hong Kong - I liked what I played of the previous 2 games, tho I never finished either. This is good. Engaging narrative, fun turn based combat...
Hong Kong is my favorite of the trilogy. The first game is a story more than it's a campaign, and in the second it breaks my immersion how quickly the setting adopts you as its savior. The third game also provides some nice gameplay improvements, like a role for the Body stat other than HP, and a more involved (though still often tedious) hacking subgame.

Monster Sanctuary (Game Pass) - I completed this pokemon/metroidvania mashup over the weekend and mostly enjoyed the experience...
I started playing this a few months ago, and my brain shut down when I reached the team-building phase. A similar thing happened with Subnautica, where my motivation disappeared entirely once it was time to build a base. It's kinda sad that there are now entire game mechanics I can no longer enjoy.
My absurd self is back to having a dozen games in progress at once, including, um... four different games from the Dragon Quest franchise.

I recently started playing Fallout: New Vegas again since I haven't played it in about a decade or so. Two hours in, the game crapped itself and wont load any of my saves anymore so... that's that I guess. Back to tentacle hentai on Monday night I guess :(

Well, clearly you're doing this wrong. Tentacle hentai should be every night.

I had a great time over the weekend returning to Thief: The Black Parade, playing the second level. However, it reminded me that I can no longer play games such as Thief or Hitman the way I would've 15-20 years ago. I need to have enough time, ideally at least an hour, I need to clear my mind, put on headphones, lower the blinds. This may sound silly and exaggerated, but after a day at the office or during a stressful phase it simply feels too daunting, and these aren't games I can enjoy in short bursts. I need to get into the spirit of things, I need to get used to the systems and the feel of the game - so all too often, I simply don't. Which is a shame, because these are among the games I enjoy most when I'm actually playing them, but there's always this initial effort that puts me off when I'm already tired from whatever the week has thrown at me. But I'm hoping that perhaps it's also a habit I can get back into: I'll try to make myself play the game more often, because I know (even if I don't always feel it) that when I do it's absolutely worthwhile.

It could simply be you getting older and your body needing more time to adjust between tasks. I know that has been something I've had to accept myself as I approach 50 (granted with a medical condition sapping my reserves on top). It may seem excessive to you now, but if you learn to accept that this is what you need to do now, you should still find a lot of enjoyment in gaming. Try to see it as getting ready for some real quality uninterrupted gaming time instead of a quick fix.

What do you mean, I'm approaching 50? I'm not even 49 yet! It's still months away!
I know what you mean, though, and it's definitely true. I find it easier with movies, not because I watch them more passively (I honestly don't think I do, and I have 100+ hours of podcast I've made as proof :cheeky:), but because their flow is out of my hands, at least if I'm at the cinema. I have to keep pace with them or I don't have a chance of enjoying them.

Joke's on you, olds! I couldn't play Thief even when I was a teenager without needing to switch back to Descent for a mine run or three back in the day. Imagine me having the patience to play Thief and TBP now.
That's how ADHD works right, you get more distracted the older you get?

I'm having a blast with Helldivers II.
I'm not much of a multiplayer person, but this game definitely gets more fun with others, even if only because the harder missions with more interesting enemies are damn near impossible solo.
If any of you are on there and see me online, feel free to hit me up in case I have time for a mission or 2.
I'm faetal on Steam.

Playing through Amnesia: Rebirth right now, because it's leaving Game Pass in a couple of days. Rebirth is the first Amnesia game that I've played (despite owning some of them for years) and so far it's been... decent, I guess. I really liked the first few hours of the game, but it's getting a bit too weird now with all sorts of alien technology and dimension portals and stuff.
Rebirth is more story than game, and for once I'm actually really pleased that I don't have to run around searching for collectibles and trying to explore every corner of the map. The dark and mysterious story succeeds in creating a nerve-racking atmosphere, although it must be said that it loses some of its effect when the game tries to scare you all the time. I'd prefer some more calm and quiet moments. Gameplay-wise Rebirth offers nothing special, apart from the whole fear system maybe. I don't know how it works, but maybe it's better that way!
One more thing. Tasi, the protagonist of the game, is either really short or then everyone else in the game are giants. I find it somewhat annoying when all the door handles and levers are only slightly below the eye level.
How does Rebirth compare to the other Amnesia games?

I'm not sure, but I started Dark Descent recently after having owned it for, like, decades, and to be honest I didn't enjoy it much. I found the woozy insanity effects to be unpleasant (I mean, as they should be, but it wasn't fun to experience it over and over), and the story was tediously verbose. I never actually got to the point of encountering an enemy, though, so maybe it picks up after that. But the next evening, when I had the chance to play it again, I asked myself: do I actually care what happens? And the answer was no.
