After noping out of Legend of Grimrock, I started playing Rytmos, a nifty, stylish little puzzler that makes good use of music. However, there's one thing about it that keeps me from enjoying it as much as the good people at RPS and Eurogamer: basically, the way you solve the puzzles dynamically generates new instrumental tracks, so you end up with pieces of music based on the paths you generate from A to B to C and back to A.
The problem with this is that the developers made this weird choice where there is a delay between the visuals and the sound. When the graphical indicator that runs along the path we've just created passes A, B and C, the according sound only plays half a second later. And for me that delay destroys most of the sense that my solution generates the music (or at least rhythm tracks that are added to the music). It feels much like when you're watching a video and the audio is out of sync and always comes half a second late.
There's one other thing that annoys me, and that's the impenetrable UI. I still don't know whether there's an option to actually exit the game. But hey, Alt + F4 works okay.

Glad you enjoyed it Brethren! :) Did you play the whole thing in VR tho? That seems like
a lot of VR.
I did play the whole thing (~70 hours) in VR. Tbh, that's the part that really drew me into the game, it made everything feel very realistic and scary at times. And once I installed one of the VR mods, I had no performance issues or jankiness at all.

Yeesh, I nearly Alt+F4ed, nope outta there, several times in Subnautica just on a regular ole' flat monitor. Think I'd have actually browned some pants playing it in VR.

I re-installed Black & White 2 last night, which was something I tried under Linux but couldn't get to work. There's some fan patches and mods available for the game now that I'd wanted to try, and while I didn't have time for an extended session last night, first impressions are good. I previously replayed the Black & White games back in 2017, and switched my opinions on which the better game was. Previously, I had preferred the first game and its expansion, Creature Isle, but replaying it made me realise that the second game was a lot more polished and consistent.
The only downside was that it was missing the playground of Creature isle and a skirmish mode, but these fan patches and mods apparently address that, so I'm keen to check it out all over again.

I'm playing Stranded: Alien Dawn and am having a great time with it.
27 hours in the last 5 or so days. I've re-started around 5 or 6 times already to learn from my fuck-ups. Really what I want to be playing right now.

I'd like to be playing Redfall, even in its current state, but...*looks at price on Steam*. Yeah, I'm good until it's patched and half off. I mean, Arkane are my favorite studio but nope.

Gamepass ftw, then pick it up on Steam around Halloween for $19.99.

I've mostly been playing Shadows of Doubt this week and it's definitely worth a look. It suffers from some of the issues that you'd expect a procedurally generated sandbox to have, but the systems are dense and interesting enough that you can easily get a decent handful of hours out of it.

Glad to hear it, definitely interested in Shadows of Doubt.
I've been playing a couple games about guiding spirits into the afterlife. Wasn't planning on it, it just happened.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits - It's in PS+ so finally gave it a whirl. Looks great and plays really well. The movement feels good and combat is occasionally
really good. The story ain't doing much for me, but it's an enjoyable ride anyway.
Spiritfarer - I've played this before, but never finished it. As a gamedev I'm finding its design inspiring. When it comes to the platforming or action-bits it's extremely simple and not much challenge, but the whole hook of the game is in the meta. Grinding towards new buildings and recipes and abilities. It's all just a bunch of invisible timers and meters to fill up, but it really works in creating a sense of purpose and keeping you hooked! Something my own games have been lacking in. This game is giving me some ideas.
Also:
Terra Nil - I got a new (2021) iPad! My clunky ol' 2013 iPad wouldn't even install Terra Nil, but it's smooth sailing on this one. I've made it to the 3rd island, really enjoying it so far.
Zeepkist - look at this lovely GIF I made!
Inline Image:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/my3t4fh022wf3ld/ZeepGIF01.gif?raw=1I'm always playing this. Zeepkist is now second only to Arma 3 (and my own games) on my most-played Steam games list. It's a fantastic soapbox arcade racer and when you enter a MP race you're treated to a never-ending stream of new user-made levels, each one more beautiful and inventive than the last. Wonderful game.

With Zeepkist, can you just race your friends in MP? I have to admit that Don't Starve hasn't clicked for me, but hey, a fun racer where we can be road-ragey dicks to one another sounds like fun! :p
