Been playing through Rebel Galaxy these last days and it's a mixed bag. The gameplay ranges from boring (travel in system between missions) to good (some of the combat scenarios). The story is forgettable while the atmosphere is great. It's been in my backlog for a couple of years now, so I'm glad I finished it, but it's also hard for me to recommend it to anyone.

That reminds me that I want to finally play Rebel Galaxy Outlaw at some point - but at the same time I'm kinda shying away from it. That game looks so much like my memories of the original Privateer, and somehow I want to find out neither that it doesn't live up to my expectations nor that the Privateer template simply doesn't measure up all that much in 2022.

I just checked and I've had Rebel Galaxy in my GOG library since June 2017 and only got around to actually play it for more than an hour last week.

I tried playing Rebel Galaxy a few years ago, and while it was fun I found the progression was so slow I lost interest rather quickly.

The biggest ship costs about 20mil more than the starting ship. It has slots for 20 turrets and the highest quality turrets cost in the range of 2-6mil each for an additional 40-120 mil credits. as well as 10+ mil to upgrade the remaining systems (shields, engine, armor, etc.). That requires an amount of grinding that reads "Install Cheat Engine and find the address for Credits if you want to play with this".

(
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151603&p=2485296&viewfull=1#post2485296) I played Rebel Galaxy earlier this year.
I found it way too repetitive yet strangely addictive, but it was fun for a while. When you've played it for an hour or two, you've already seen pretty much everything that the game has to offer, but for some reason I still kept playing it until the end. I wouldn't call it time well spent, but I've wasted my time on worse things before. I'm also interested in trying out
Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, but if it's just more of the same, then I'll probably skip that one.

While I haven't played it yet, the screenshots and reviews Outlaw I've seen make the flight system resemble a traditional space-flight sim as opposed to the naval battle style of the original. The starting ship in the original also appears to be bigger than anything you can get in Outlaw.

Been getting obsessed with (
https://store.steampowered.com/app/453090/Parkitect/) Parkitect, which is scratching the Rollercoaster Tycoon-shaped itch in a way that Planet Coaster didn't. On the surface, it's the same as RCT - grid-based theme park management simulator, but it innovates in a number of small but interesting ways. Probably the biggest one is that guests will be happier the more immersed they are in the park. That means they actually react positively to scenery items, and will be disappointed if they can see things like toilets or staff areas. There's a load of little quality of life things too, like getting a full refund for anything you delete shortly after placing it, meaning you can try things out and then change your mind without burning through your cash, or being able to gauge how exciting or nausea-inducing a rollercoaster is while you're building it, rather than having to complete it and do a test run to find out.

Oh, as far as I know it's a very different game, not a sequel so much as a spin-off that's set in the same universe.
Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is very much a
Privateer-em-up in terms of its gameplay, and that includes
Wing Commander-style combat.

Well now I'm certainly interested! Wing Commander is still the most intense and fun space shooter that I've played, so if Rebel Galaxy Outlaw gets even halfway there, I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'll probably pick it up next time it hits the bargain bin (and then install and actually play it years later). Speaking of which, Rebel Galaxy costs less than 2 euros on GOG right now, just in case someone wants to give it a try. :)
