Now I'm playing Insurmountable!
It's not at all what I expected, I thought that it'd be some sort of a climbing simulator, but I prefer it this way. It's a 3rd person roguelite adventure game with resource management, and with lots of random events. I love random events! Too bad they seem to start repeating themselves way too often though, and I've only been playing for like four hours. So far I haven't unlocked any new characters and the story hasn't progressed much (didn't expect to see time travel in a game like this!) and I've only played some of the easier side missions, but my latest adventure especially was an exciting one. Almost froze to death, ran out of energy and sanity (yep) and oxygen, but still made it back home somehow. I like the danger of permadeath in this game, even though I don't know what it means. Do I really have to start the story all over again, or is it just this one character that won't be available anymore? Is there life after death? :D
It also annoys me a bit that there's no gamepad support for this game. I think the camera controls and everything would feel better with gamepad, and I can't see any reason for there being KB+M controls only.

Ah, glad to hear you're enjoying it, Tomi. Insurmountable deserves more love. Yeah if you have another character you can keep playing as them. IIRC there's some sorta revive mechanic that shows up eventually too.

I started playing
Darksiders GenesisSo I finished it up and it was mostly decent. My biggest issue has been with the Aether Spark controls, while most of the places where the slipperiness + constantly increasing speed were an issue was optional stuff, the experience with this puzzle item was not a good one.
My overall verdict is get it on a sale if you don't have it yet and you're still interested in a twinstick/beat-em-up/puzzle/semi-coop thing with an Above-Indie-But-Not-Quite-A level production value.

I am playing Hat in Time and find it equal parts charming and frustrating. I must precede this by saying I am not normally big on platformers, so the fact I already put 5hrs in (and will likely put in more) speaks to the game's quality.
I do love the variety and creativity of the game, not just with the different levels, worlds and playstyles, but also small touches (like the "friendship" meter with the moustache girl, the contract signing, etc.) Half the reason I keep going is to just find out what they'll come up with next! Very similar to my design philosophy behind RoYP, so I appreciate it. And of course the Snatcher is the MVP, the contract idea, voice acting, etc. are all great.
That being said, while I enjoy all this big picture stuff, I'm finding the moment-to-moment gameplay a tad frustrating. Maybe it's because I am not a platforming veteran, but I find Hat Kid doesn't always do what I want her to do, especially when it comes to wall climbing/jumping stuff. And I'm having hard time judging distances sometimes, partly due to the... camera. God the camera can be a dick sometimes, with random zoom ins/zoom outs and inability to actually look around properly. This is especially bad if I need to jump down somewhere and literally can't rotate it downwards. Or when the camera decides to flip around to some awkward angle midway through a platforming section.
I'm on the 4th world now and wish it was just shorter. I beat he Giant Mill and halfway through started thinking "christ, is it over yet?" Luckily the checkpoints are at least generous.

I've made it to the second half of Dying Light, so I'm giving that one a rest right now. In the meantime I'm plowing on with Sekiro and finding myself frustrated trying to beat the Shichimen Warrior. Man, does anyone like From Software's mechanisms like Terror? The annoying thing is that I've almost beaten him once or twice, but never quite, so I keep trying, but I also keep running out of Divine Confetti, so I have to go and get more of those, which draws out the whole thing. I should probably head to Senpou Temple instead.
I'm also playing, and enjoying, Return to Monkey Island. More than any game since Monkey Island 2, this does have the original MI feel. I also like how it's handling the whole continuity issue so far. The visual style is absolutely fine, more so in motion than on stills perhaps, and the music is monkey gold. The change in LeChuck's voice actor is a bit of a shame (I think that Earl Boen retired for good), but it's not a biggie. I could imagine that the game will be enjoyed more by the people who like the first two Monkey Island games better than, say, those who prefer Curse of Monkey Island, but who knows what goes in in those people's brains?

Oh, the shaman guys. I remember those as being fairly annoying, especially the last one. There's an item called the purple gourd which will help a bit with the divine confetti issue. Otherwise just farm more of them from the blue-robed samurai in the castle. Also, once you get the purple umbrella prosthetic tool, you can just block the terror beams instead of having to run from them or deflect them, which I found made the fight fairly trivial.

I tried A Hat In Time some time ago, but there was something about it that didn't click with me. I only played it for a little while though before forgetting it, but you make it sound kinda fun (despite all the criticism), so perhaps I'll give it another chance later. :)
Meanwhile I've been busy with my mountaineering adventures in
Insurmountable. It took me way too many hours to figure out how much more efficient it is to zig-zag your way through the terrain, instead of climbing those really high slopes. Fortunately I've had it easy so far, but that's probably the difference between life and death when the going gets tough. I think I've been playing the game a bit too much already though, the random events are starting to repeat themselves too often now (there really should be much more of them!), so from now on I think I'll only be playing one adventure every couple of days or something.

If I ever get my vintage computer up and running I'm going to be playing all these games hardcore in the little free time I have:

They suck but if you have anti-air deathblow you can get in a free deathblow whenever they jump up in the air. But yeah, head to the temple. Some great terrible things in that direction.

How you upgrade the mountaneers can have a large impact on the difficulty, one of them has some upgrades that make exploring at night and sleeping during the day a solid option (especially if you grab the sleep without tent level-ups during a climb). Sanity is basically the timer for each climb, so having more, losing less or even gaining it lets you take even safer paths.
But yes, it gets very samey after a couple of climbs. But most of the random events do have different outcomes even for the same choices. Sometimes an event that provided a benefit during one climb can cause a major setback in another.
