I think there's one chapter of the story of The Long Dark that's still to come, and that one is currently in the making.
As far as Thief (2014) is concerned, I keep hearing from people who liked it, so at some point I'll probably have to give it another try, but I found my initial experience of the game so offputting, it'll be a year at least before I give it another chance.

Man, I love The Long Dark. Playing the latest story mode episode every winter has become a yearly tradition (if a new episode has been released that year). It's one of those games where just the SOUNDS of it are like a warm, nostalgic blanket to wrap myself in. My fave survival game (yeah I like it better than Subnautica, even).
As for Thief 2014, yeah you should give it a try if you're a Thief fan. But if you've tried it and didn't like it, no point in giving it another chance, it's not gonna do anything new, and it's not like it has hidden depths you just missed on the first try.

I could imagine that, knowing that there's aspect X that I'm not too keen on, I might be able to accept this and focus on aspect Y instead, which I might like. I remember bouncing off of the Thief 2 demo twice before something fell into place and I fell hard for the game. I don't think that this will happen with Thief (2014), but there've been a number of films and TV series and books and games where I'm glad I tried again after a bad first impression, because I ended up giving them a second chance. Though, admittedly, there are also a lot of things I gave a second chance, and nope, I still thought they sucked. :cheeky:

Thi4f has good stealth gameplay, good graphics, relatively interesting environments, and decent writing on the flavour text. But it also has a terrible, nonsensical story, it tries too hard to be edgy, and the overall mood is more bleak and oppressive than old Thiefs' kind of mystical coziness. I liked it and even played through it twice originally, but it's no classic.
I only played The Long Dark when it was early access and there was no story mode. Contrary to what Tomi said, to me it felt very much like a survival game, maybe even too much. I was constantly in danger of freezing, starving, or being attacked by wolves, and eventually had to stop playing it before bed because it got me too tense and made it hard to sleep. It had a wonderful atmosphere, though, and it was more evocative of being in a very cold place than any other game I can think of.

Maybe the story mode is easier and more forgiving in that regard? It's been about two years since I last played TLD so I may have forgotten a lot already, but I can't remember there being a feeling of real danger very often. I mean, the nearest safe spot is always somewhere nearby. The world is small enough so that you can't really get lost either. Wolves are easy to scare away, and acquiring food or firewood isn't that hard. I gotta admit that the snowstorms
look and
sound great, but I never felt like
oh shit I'm gonna freeze to death here. Still, I thought it was a pretty good game, and I'd like to finish it one day.

They must've toned it down for the story mode. In the original sandbox mode it was hard to survive even a single night.

I played TLD in Early Access (I think I also backed it on Kickstarter).
All I remember is how OP the salt crackers were.

Done with Episode 1 of The Long Dark. It hasn't clicked yet, but I'm still curious enough to continue - though not immediately. Not quite sure if I'll finally get started on Sekiro instead.

I'm playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 3 at the moment. It is very, very good, with a great story with great characters, addressing just about every single weakpoint that's come up in the previous entries on the gameplay front.
It's also basically Xenogears.

Oh good to hear, I plan on getting that soon.
