I'm not sure how far this qualifies as a game, but I give you (
http://goo.gl/bD7VJT) Memento Mori - an interactive text-based psychological/survival horror adventure. It's an year or so old by now, and three chapters of it are complete. I'd say it's not remotely close to getting done, but you can play what's been done so far. I've got mostly positive reception on this so far; surprising, because this was intended less as a proper game, and more as proof of concept. The point I was making was that it's possible to write a 'game' with some hassle by using Google Forms.
Memento Mori plays out much like CYOA novels, but slightly more gamey. The gameplay is, to use sophisticated words that don't really describe the experience, nonlinear and highly exploration based. It's also choice-based to a certain extent, because at some points the story briefly diverges. A good example is at the beginning of Chapter 3, where (minor spoiler)
you have to go to the bathroom, and what happens there depends on whether you went to the ladies' or the gents'. Sadly, I can't include things like weapon choice, because then I'd have to clone entire pages for combat depending on the weapon you picked up, but I can vary the gameplay in short bursts. It's like waking up in the morning: brush first, shower first, or breakfast first? You can mix things up for a slightly different morning but ultimately you're ending up getting ready no matter what. Still, I've tried to include little Easter eggs, encourage exploring to find hints and secret semi-collectibles (semi-collectible because having a variable inventory doesn't really work, but oh well, those are the limitations of my chosen medium).
So, go ahead. Try it out, and tell me what you think of it.

It might be just me, bu slapping a HUD / GUI on always felt like the moment when my projects transitioned from "nice tech demo" to "oh my god this feels like a game!" So props for you, it's really coming together. I might have missed it but are you releasing for free or some paid option?

That's placeholder art, right?

Yes, the character screen is the correct dimensions, but the character screen is the first layer and remains to be more detailed. Hence, MAN_BASE. It'll still be all in a 16-bit art style though, as per the sprites.
At the moment, I need to concentrate on getting the ability to drag items of equipment from the inventory to the character, and have the avatar overlay with individual clothing items. If you ever played UW1 or UW2, I'm aiming for that level of detail on the character screen.
Yakoob, if I'm happy enough with the game it'll be paid for. After all, if people are making money from shite like Candy Crush.. but hey, I'm making this game because it's a game I want to play. I wouldn't be doing it otherwise.

Good luck! I'll give it a bash.

Ulukai - aah that happened to me with Postmortem, close to release I realized we reached a level of polish I didn't quite except so figure why the heck not and opened the paying option up two weeks before release haha!
On my end, in another episode of AI shenanigans, today I learned what happens when your NPCs don't know how to open doors. Apparently they dropkick them out of the frame O_O
