If there's an emphasis on stealing stuff, magpies are better known for it.

Yakoob might actually know this as I know he spent some time in Japan, but there's a season when crows famously appear to invade the place in big murders, and they get really aggressive and stealy.
So it fits the setting in this case. Also going by Koob's other games, I imagine they'll be doing a lot of different kinds of mischief, not only stealing!

Yea, the reason to use the crow is two-fold a) crows (and ravens) are really interesting birds and there's a ton of cool facts about them like the fact they can remember faces, hold grudges, mourn their dead, or are one of few animals to use tools, and b) a lot of folks are obsessed with crows and a ton of art online is dedicated to them, so I think it's a good pick from the marketing lens.
So yea tl;dr a lot of fun ideas to play with AND it's easily marketable :]
(and yes indeed you will do a lot more than stealing, stealing isn't honestly even the biggest component of the game, but it just made for a good tagline)

Just throwing ideas around. I'm not saying I wouldn't use crows, but if I were to make a character that steals a lot, I'd consider a magpie for sure. Although they are not culturally as ubiquitous, they are also extremely intelligent birds (as are all corvids, apparently). In fact, magpie is the only bird to have passed the mirror test and is considered to be the most intelligent non-human animal on the planet, rivalled only by some of the great apes.

If I was to make a magpies game, it would be a horror title, SWOOPING SEASON.
