I really wish I got into Substance Painter sooner. It's nigh on miraculous.

It really is.
I'm still unsure what's going to happen with it after Adobe bought it, it may yet move to a monthly-subscription-only model, which would be a shame considering it had reasonable pricing for normal people.

Well, $20 a month for the entire suite isn't too terrible, and you do get so many free materials per month, which does sweeten the deal a bit.
That said, I'd really hope they continue to offer the perpetual license. Having the choice to go either/or is preferable way to go here. Though with Adobe...
Though if it does end up going down the subscription only route, there's always (
https://quixel.com/mixer) Quixel Mixer, which is planned to be the Megascan equivalent to Substance Painter. Quixel has already gone on record stating that they'll be offering a perpetual license for it for $99 if you don't want to go the subscription route. The only issue there is that the program is still in early, early beta, and can only be used to mix up megascans, or create some basic procedural textures.

There's also (
https://armorpaint.org/) ArmourPaint, which is still in early development, but it's free and open source, and so should be free of any licensing drama.

ArmorPaint looks like it will be cool, but right now, it's way, way too basic to be any good.

Seriously, people. Substance Painter is one of the best damn programs I've ever used in my entire life. It makes something that's always been kind of tedious so much easier.
