I got my UE4 spline tools published on the Epic Marketplace. Hurrah!
I wonder if anyone will actually want to buy it?
Renzatic on 29/8/2018 at 22:03
I'm tempted to, considering I'm toying with the idea of UE4 to build my environments.

Hey, come on, I intentionally didn't link the marketplace link or the fancy promo video because I wasn't trying to sell it here.
You old TTLG folks can have it for free if you want it.

No, NV. You deserve money for your hard work. You gotta eat too, you know?
...unless it's like $100 or something, then yeah, just give it to me. :P

After much struggle I finally have saving and loading times to a database working in POGOPPL. This is starting to look like a LEGITIMATE VIDEOGAME, folks! I got BINARY FORMATING running up in this mutha! I got SERIALIZATION. I got DE-SERIALIZATION!
No more PlayerPrefs for THIS hot shot programmer!

I got SERIALIZATION. I got
DE-SERIALIZATION!
Using [Serializable] or something else?
henke on 16/9/2018 at 10:57
Yes, that.

My experience with trying to implement serialisation a few days ago in C++: Choose Boost - one of the only modules that needs compiling is serialisation - there's a build tool for that - build tool needs building with its own build tool - build tool for build tool fails building - give up and look for precompiled - Source Forge won't let me download them.

A choice excerpt from...
COLDWHEAT BAY
A rough rural road, banked by trees on on one side, an open field on the other. Off in the distance, you can see the school. The day is bright and hazy, in that way only summer days can be. You can practically hear the cicadas buzzing in the trees. Bill Bill and Jakoby are walking along the road side by side, discussing the days ahead, a few kids straggling along behind them taking the same path home. Off in the distance, you can see the back of the school they're all leaving behind.
Jakoby: ...so as you were saying?
A closer shot of the two. Bill Bill's telling a story as they walk along.
Bill Bill: Yeah. You remember that kid Tim, right? Had that crazy eye? Could never tell which way he was looking?
Bill Bill: So anyway, we're at lunch, right? Sitting at the usual table. And Tim? He's there too, and he's got something to prove.
Bill Bill: Aaron dared him earlier that day to snort a whole penny up his nose, and he was there to do it.
Jakoby says nothing, just archs his eyebrow, and casts an incredulous look in Bill Bill's direction.
Bill Bill: Yeah. I thought about the same thing, but words were said.
Bill Bill: Reputations were on the line.
Jakoby: ...but why a penny? What's that prove?
Bill Bill: I dunno. I would've thought of making him do something more funny, but whatever. I still wanted to see if he would do it.
Jakoby: Yeah? And did he?
Bill Bill: This is where it starts getting good. So there we were, Tim, me, Aaron, and Leaky Steve.
Bill Bill: You can tell he doesn't want to do it, but he's gotta. I mean Aaron's right there. If he chickens out, his rep is toast!
Bill Bill: So he takes a deep breath, drinks some water, and...
Jakoby: Yeah?
Bill Bill: He does it! He snorts that penny right up! Made this weird pop when he did it too! Totally crazy!
Jakoby: DUUUDDDEEE!
Bill Bill: Wait. It gets better. At first, everything seemed cool. Tim was showing off, and hey, who could blame him? Guy just snorted a penny!
Bill Bill: But then Leaky Steve noticed something. Tim's eyes? They were both moving together at the same time.
Bill Bill: ...and you know Tim. His eyes usually don't do that.
Bill Bill: And then...oh man. We heard this gurgling noise.
Bill Bill: That's when it happened.
Jakoby: What? Don't leave me hanging!
Bill Bill: Blood SHOOTS out of his nose, all over the table! I mean it's spraying out like a water hose with someone holding their finger over the nozzle!
Jakoby: NO WAY!
Bill Bill: Yeah! And get this. While they were evacuating the cafeteria, I found the penny he snorted all the way on the other side of the room.
Bill Bill: I knew it was THE penny cuz it was a wheat penny. You don't see those around all that often anymore.
Jackoby: So that's why the fire alarm went off around lunchtime.
Bill Bill: ...and why Tim doesn't have that crazy eye anymore.

What did I just read?
On my end, for those who find this kind of thing interesting, I'll mention what happened with the spline tools that I put up on the UE4 Marketplace three weeks ago.
I've sold a couple of copies, though the pattern of sales is not really what I was expecting. I had somehow expected a burst of sales at the start, quickly petering out, but instead there seems to be a small number of sales scattered here and there with no particular pattern. I don't really know what to make of it or how to predict future trends.
It seems to be very different than a game launch, in any case.

Also, it was really nice to see someone who bought it make a really beautiful scene using it! ((
