Great news about the Pathologic kickstarter! It really is quite surprising how much support there is for it though I guess that cult games such as this always have more fans than it seems at the first glance.
I am not really bothered by the late release date – there were tons of things in the original that needed some major polishing so it’s better if the devs take all the time they need.

(
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/656253074/phantasmal-a-roguelike-survival-horror-game)
First-person horror game with
semi-random level architecture.
This game doesn't look like it's going to knock everything out of the park, but it's looking
good enough that I'm happy to focus on that one single feature as a fine reason to back the hell out of it!
Seriously, almost no one does this. Most 3D engines for first-person games simply aren't geared towards randomised levels. "Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi" is the only other example that I've played, and the randomisation is one of the main reasons why I still think of it as one of my favourite horror games, despite it being kinda crap in a few areas (yeah, horror and randomisation make a pretty good team :)
Do a few unusual things well, and the game is going to be a memorable experience regardless of anything else.
Quote:
Infinite Replayability - Every room and corridor in the building is created from the ground up on a component basis, i.e. the floors, ceilings, walls, stairs, etc. No level will EVER be constructed the same - almost every room and hallway will be COMPLETELY unique.
Insanity system - fighting the creatures will slowly drive you mad, and you will suffer the effects of your slowly eroding sanity.
Self Defense - Defend your life with anything you can find from wooden boards and pipes you rip from the walls. If you're lucky you may find a gun locker, but on each level there will only be one!
Stealth - Fighting is a last resort tactic. Sneak past your enemies as much as you can. Each action you take will have a consequence and creating too much of a ruckus will wake The Sleeper.
Light - Make sure you use your light sources wisely - your own torch will sometimes be your greatest liability.
Character Progression - Death is not the end. You will accumulate XP every playthrough which will allow you to grow your character and come back stronger.
Edit: (spoiler warning, I guess) Video from "IGP - The Indie Game Promoter", showing (and talking over) a presumably-recent build of the game: (

Well I backed Pathologic. That makes two things I've backed.
It's well over now, but I kinda want it to hit the first stretch mark (ooer, that pun fits The Void better though really), before the end. Fifteen grand in 3 days? Maybe.

I dunno, I kinda feel that he should at least get Asylum into a beta state first at the very least. They even did a Duke Nukem Forever and migrated development from their in-house Dagon engine to Unity.

Sure, it's a reasonable thing to ask, but it's not like there's been no progress or that he hasn't been communicating -- he even showed off a playable build at Gamescom.
I backed it (because Lovecraft and cosmic horror), but it would be nice to have the backers at least get their hands on a demo of the playable build first.

Hmmm. Well, I didn't think it was going to make it, but they got there!
The funding goal was
really small for a game, though. I can't help but suspect that they were hoping for a good deal more (and I'm a bit sad they didn't get more). I'll be curious to see how this ends up, at any rate.

They won an industry development grant for $25,000 NZD a couple of weeks ago.

Definitely well deserved IMO.
Most recently I backed this game, Pathologic remake and Human Resources. As far as non-gaming KS's, I backed Under The Dog (an anime OVA project) and Samurai Cop 2 (sequel to a cult "so bad that it's good" film).

How do you improve on FTL? Replace the spaceships with trucks! That's what Convoy Games are planning to do with (
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1248554329/convoy-a-tactical-roguelike-like) Convoy, which is currently closing in on it's €10 000 goal, with 22 days to go. They seem to have a lot of the game done already, but they still sound a bit optimistic with their mere €10 000 goal, and a release date as soon as February next year. Oh well, if they get it done that fast I'll be impressed and overjoyed. Looks great. Backed! :)
