There was a bit of a to-do on RPS about whether journos should call out suspicious stuff early and clearly or not.
I generally think not. If the evidence isn't there to call it a fraud or scam then you can't say so, only report what you know.
But in any case the amount of follow up journalists do is kinda sad, whether they declare it a scam or not. It's usually "I sent emails to some relevant parties. None of them got back to me. Oh well. I've got a million other things to do today so write it the way I see it and moving on."
All journalism is like this now so games isn't special. But most other areas at least had a period where the journalism was great. Games is never going to have that it seems.
I should probably just stop reading All the President's Men and let it go.

I backed the crap out of that one.
Everyone else should back it too. Local co-op stretch goal at $90K!

They are asking for just 50k* to deliver the game in a little over a year on six platforms simultaneously, but they only have a handful of concept art, (

http://imgur.com/a/hFRCq) screenshots and STALKER footage to show. At the very least they are being dishonest with how far the project is along or what the money is for.
* Not to mention KS and Amazon each take 5% of that sum and rewards cost something to produce and deliver as well.
Edit:
Also, it's a little bit odd that Sytyanov is touted as being a new addition to the project when in fact he was the one (
https://www.facebook.com/groups/118360218257628/permalink/605745646185747/) looking for programmers for the Areal project back in March.

Oh wow. So apparently in the last few days of Areal's Kickstarter campaign, there's been a huge spike in funding from only a couple of backers, meaning the project has now met its funding goal. There are huge suspicions that this last-minute funding isn't coming from interested third parties, but rather from the developers themselves to ensure that they get the rest of the money. And that's not all.

And after looking at the Kickstarter page, the project has been suspended by Kickstarter itself under suspicions of a scam. Hope this turns out well for the backers and they see their money again.

The best part was when they claimed to have gotten a letter of support from Putin.
And nobody lost any money -- at KS, money only gets charged when a project finishes successfully.
