Sounds like Skyrim where you can join any faction and go down its plot line, which is probably best for a post-apoc game anyway.

That looks great - surprised with a staff of a dozen that they're only asking for 50 grand. Should have no trouble hitting that.
I'm not very impressed. They say that they're not asking for much money because they've already put a lot of work into the game, but all they have to show for it is concept art and a lot of assets from STALKER, which seems pretty fishy to me. There's not much substance, they're basically expecting people to donate on the basis of who's developing it alone. That kind of approach may work for Tim Schafer or Chris Roberts, but STALKER spent so long in development hell and the more quickly produced sequels were so rough and unfinished on release that I'm not convinced they can pull off a solid game on a crowdfunded budget.

Also, a dev from Vostok Games (made up of former STALKER devs) said (

We have contacted GSC's lawyers regarding this fraudulent claim of being the developers of Stalker and Metro Last Light. Please do all you can do ensure people know these claims are false.
Also also, a lot of the concept art and footage is lifted wholesale from STALKER.
The probability of this being a scam is rapidly approaching 1.

Just saw that. This pitch is looking super dodgy. :(

The entire thread that Starker references above has been deleted, not sure exactly what that means. You'd think if this was in fact a scam, the guys at Survarium would want everyone to know.

Indeed, but it was not just "some moderator" saying it, like the Areal update claims. It was Joe Mullin, the PR manager of Vostok.
Also, Oleg Yavorsky (Vostok's marketing manager) has since (

"So that you understand, over the years of development of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and then Metro series, there have been literally hundreds of people involved in working on various bits and pieces, starting from beta-testers up to modellers responsible for certain weapon models. Many people came to the studio to work for a few months just for the sake of adding “S.T.A.L.K.E.R. development” to their portfolio. Frequently they claimed afterwards to be the 'core' developers behind the game - you wouldn't know anyway, right?). Yet, my biggest concern is that West Games are using the footage and assets of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and representing them as their own, which is not only illegal, but simply just not right. I guess it's all made for the sake of getting extra publicity (which unfortunately works), but guys on Kickstarter should probably pay attention"

The most suspicious thing is the fact that they used video (and assets) from the Unity engine, when they claim that they're creating their own engine. I was a little hopeful when I first saw their project, but at this point I wouldn't give them a dime. They don't appear to have produced much of anything original that's specifically meant for this game.

Hallo!
I'm a long-time lurker who used to post some but then dropped off, and I'm only here now for some shameless self-promotion. I'm adding this to this thread, though, in the hopes that this is the right place to put such a thing.
My name is Nathan Rockwood, and I was once working on a fan-made Thief-based tabletop RPG sourcebook with some posters from these parts. I haven't had the chance to finish that project, but I'm finally making the leap from freelancing on other games (the Serenity, Battlestar Galactica, Demon Hunters, and Cortex RPGs) to trying to publish my own work, via a kickstarter.
What I'm publishing is (
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/376399785/the-gamemasters-apprentice) a deck of cards to help create random stories, ideas, loot, and characters for RPG games.
The core deck is
not directly Thief-or-TTLG-related,
but I'm hoping to make one of my stretch goals some adventures for a "Victorian Steampunk" setting, and a specially-tailored version of the deck could be made, too. I already have a sci-fi deck as a stretch goal, and am hoping to gear that towards the Deus Ex cyberpunk genre as a multi-purpose engine.
I would love both direct support and any ideas anyone feels like sharing about that, since I would be beta-ing it over the next several months if the campaign succeeds.
If I can reach those levels, I'm also interested in
commissioning art from artists who are familiar with the style and atmosphere of Thief (and perhaps Deus Ex). If anyone here is interested in freelancing for a startup game design company, please message me!
Also, folks here might appreciate the name of my game design company. Registered in Maryland as a limited liability company, we operate as Larcenous Designs, LLC :-)
