Somehow this feels like a spiritual successor to Snakes On A Plane. Let's hope it lives up to its idea better than that movie did.

Why does this feel like some asymmetrical Co-Op game?

Pig Hunt was actually the first thing that popped into my mind, but Snakes on a Plane followed shortly after.

Oh this is way better than Snakes on a Plane just on the trailer alone. And based on a true story.

Welp. I can predict one thing. They're never gonna say shows made out of video games are always bad anymore.

Just mediocre, huh.
It's one of the most generically cut trailers in recent memory, soz.

We're talking about a prime time-like TV show of a popular video game, so one has to scale their reaction accordingly I think. I was just saying the same thing about (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C5Az-239uM) Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles from the other direction. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

I'm sure the show will be, at the very least, passably good to possibly even approaching pretty damn good. Chernobyl was a standout from the age of TV as far as I'm concerned, so having the writer of The Hangover 2 on it must mean
something.
My reaction is centred on how the trailer presents the show, which isn't great. Yes, the game's rooted in a bog-standard post-apo story, but the thing that made it special was its character, not its threats. Take on Me featuring as a thematic cue is cute, but it's the same overwrought technique that Hollywood is so enamoured with these days of taking a pop song and amping it up for a trailer in the most dramatic fashion possible, which doesn't work given the material isn't suited to it. Contrast it with (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKeU1twQYX4) this scene from The Last of Us 2 - it's still a cliché, because it's in the reverse direction, but it means something more because it's a character moment, and you can see that without any context.
What I'm saying is, ugh, please make better trailers, including the one for Cocaine Bear where the movie should be pretty great, but the trailer appears to ruin like half of it.

Okay, but I didn't really mean to comment on the trailer itself, but to predict something about the show. Even saying I think it'll be the best show about a video game ever is still a far cry from thinking it'll be in the same league as the best show ever. It's a low bar.
I still think it'll be a good show because it has a lot of good things to work with. And I'm sure I'll like it because I liked scenes from the game, and I think I'll like seeing how they play out in this show. TWD was like that coming from the comic. Hell, GoT as long as they had Martin's books to work from, and then it quickly fell apart after that.
I'll grant you that there's something decrepit about the way movies and shows are written when they aren't hand-held by actually good writers, and especially (in that vein) how they are marketed, of which trailers are one of the worst offenders.
