Discovered that the Hands On A Hardbody musical I like is based on a Hands On A Hardbody documentary and now I need to see the documentary.

I'M GONNA WATCH IT!

I can't believe nobody is mentioning "(
https://www.netflix.com/nl-en/title/80100172) Dark".
Season 1 of Dark was released in December 2017. Netflix. 10 Episodes. German language, or dubbed in your favorite language. I really liked season 1. It had pretty good ratings.
Season 2 was released June 21st (less than 2 months ago). 8 Episodes. I've now watched 5 out of 8 episodes. It's
AMAZING.
Maybe the best tv-series I've seen so far. (I liked the first seasons of GoT, but I hated the last season(s). Last month I've watched Twin Peaks season 3. Really good, but far from perfect. Stranger Things is entertaining, but it's mostly a show for kids. Chernobyl was good, but no more than that. Breaking Bad was not my show (even though I watched all seasons). Etc.). There will be a Dark Season 3 next year. And it will conclude the story. No risk of endlessly dragging on the series and ruining the story that way.

Quote:
On Rotten Tomatoes, Season 2 of the series holds an approval rating of 100% based on 14 reviews, with
a user rating of 99% based on 580 reviews. Since 4 July 2019 the Series holds the first Place in IMDbs TVmeter, which makes it the worlds most popular show right now.
I'm not sure if Dark is the best tv-series I've ever seen. But for sure I can not think of a show that I liked better.
Go check it out. Watch a few episodes of season 1. See if you like it. I'm watching with German language and Dutch subtitles. If English is your first language, maybe you should listen to the English dub. But otherwise, listen to the original German voices, with your preferred subtitles. It's not a "simple" show. You need to pay attention while watching. But people are here because they liked the TTLG games. Which were "made for MIT graduates". So I think the ttlg-crowd should be able to appreciate Dark.
Also very important: do not check wiki-pages until you've seen both seasons. And don't look at family-trees or time-lines online. They *all* have spoilers. Go in blind. If necessary, write down your own family-tree if you need to (I did that, and it helped. (FYI the core of the story is centered around 4 families, and it helps if you know who is related to whom)). I checked the wiki-page after watching S01E02, and immediately read a spoiler on the wiki-page. Lucky for me, the spoiler was revealed in S01E03, so it didn't spoil too much for me. Since then, I'm avoiding any online info like the plague. If you still have some questions, you can post them here (or pm me) and I'll try to answer them as spoiler-free as possible.
Maybe you also shouldn't watch any trailers. Not even the ones on the Netflix website. The show is made by Germans, but I bet the trailers are made by Americans. As usual they can't do anything without fucking it up.
Just watch the show. Enjoy.

Not sure I'm going to watch it, but apparently they are making Matrix 4. Just one question. There were two other Matrix movies?
Pyrian on 21/8/2019 at 04:20
Not really really. Those ones only ever existed inside The Matrix itself.

It's been 20 years since The Matrix was released. Is anyone feeling old yet? I'm feeling something, but that just might be last night's undigested basil parm chicken :o
Gray on 27/8/2019 at 12:07
I feel very old. The Matrix was probably the first action movie I cared about for several years, the previous one being Terminator 2. I was bored by all that stuff, but it made me think you could still do cool things with action movies.
Anyway, on a side note: I'm hosting movie night for the family this weekend, can anyone suggest a fairly recent movie that would suit a 10-year old girl, a few 20-30-ish people and a bitter grumpy old cynic? Suggestions welcome.
Sulphur on 27/8/2019 at 12:19
Those two movies are sort of benchmarks for the genre, so it's going to be very hard to surpass them. I suppose there's always Kill Bill and Fury Road in terms of movies that attempt to scale those heights.
For movie night, I'd say your crowd sounds like it would enjoy Beasts of the Southern Wild, which isn't very recent, but is an excellent family movie. Probably a benchmark, even.

Depending on the group's sense of humour, there'd also be the delightful Paddington movies or one of the Laika Studios films, e.g. Kubo and the Two Strings.
Gray on 27/8/2019 at 13:05
Paddington was met with great approval on our FB group chat, but we've not heard from all participants yet. Probably a good suggestion, thanks.
[Edit]
Yet another thing that makes me feel old, I remember reading the Paddington books back in the 1970s....
