That's good to know. Also, it's a great practice.

RIP Anchor Steam Beer

It was the first real American microbrew I ever tried, and it remained among my favorites for a long time. It still has its own character.

Awwwwww. That's what that segment on NPR must have been about this morning as I came in to work and had to immediately unload a couple tons of mirror. I didn't know it was ending. That was a good beer. Not as good as Ying Ling, but an excellent craft beer. And the first big league craft if I recall correctly. Well shit.
I'm drinking a Redd's Hard Apple in the bottle now. No way to get tipsy on them sadly. My liver is the Schwarzenegger of livers and used to much heavier lifting.

That was very disappointing news to hear but with every new IPA microbrew with wallpaper labeling Anchor just wasn't keeping up with the times. I love their beers and regularly bought their original Anchor Steam beer and I always bought a case of their Christmas beer each year. If anyone remembers Anchor Steam was featured in the Beer Hunter series with beer writer Michael Jackson. The guy that revived the company as a microbrewery is from the Maytag washing machine family.
The hard part is all the people that are losing their jobs at the original microbrewery that kicked off the craze in America. Even the term micro-brew has been replaced by the term craft-brew. And brown bottles with classy labels have been replaced by tall aluminum cans with wallpaper labels covered with over-the-top labels reminiscent of a cheap fireworks stand. I'm not bitter though because at least many European ales survive and are available in the US.

I didn't really pay that much attention to Brexit because it hasn't had any real affect on me until now. Actually I don't know how much it has affected my beer drinking hobby until I look at al the names of the breweries in the UK that are closing their doors. Of course having so many breweries shutting down in one country has a much larger scope than just my beer hobby. There are many lost jobs, dreams and ideas of those who own or were working for those breweries. So basically the UK is going through a micro-brew bust much the the US did years ago. Of course the US has recovered in many ways with so many brew-pubs making their own beer these days and combining that with good food and atmosphere. So I guess we will see what happens in the UK over the next decade or so.
