What an amazing game. - by Spaztick

Yea I came here a few years late just like I did with Thief, but I found this game exciting, innovative and fun. It did get a little tedious simply because the plot became extremely complicated and I found myself having to look over my goals to know who I was working for and what I had to get or who to kill next. That was the only flaw through the entire game, though, and I have to hand it to the dev team.
That being said I haven't gotten to IW yet, anyone know which ending was considered the "canon" ending?

All of them.
Keep your hopes really low and you should enjoy IW.

Dang, that bad, huh? Well for the ending being all of them, that sounds plausible actually. I spent 10 bucks for IW on Steam, so I guess I can't complain if it's horrible.

I would say horrible is too strong a word. For alot of people it's about disappointment rather than it being a shitty game.
It's not as good as the first game but generally its still better than the average fps game out there.

Cool. It's funny though, DX is saying exactly what's happening in the world: America is moving more towards a Communist society where the corporate elite run everything with the label of Capitalist and China is moving to a Democracy with the label of Communism.

Heh, try: America is moving more towards a
fascist society where the corporate elite run and spin everything with the label of
democracy and China is moving towards
socialism with the label of capitalism.
China accepted decades ago that communism wasn't enough to achieve even self-sufficiency, so instead they adopted capitalism, in the hopes of one day achieving the socialist ideal through capitalist means. I wouldn't say they're moving to a democracy, hell, even private land-ownership would be a big step forward at the moment, but massive amounts of people are moving from lower to middle class rapidly. Don't even get me started on the US.
I suggest you learn what those big words mean before you throw them around like that ;)
"America is moving more towards a Communist society" <--- Priceless.
BTW, how exactly did you come to these conclusions from playing Deus Ex? I'm curious to know. Sounds like you need to replay it, A LOT, which shouldn't be a problem, I've been (re)playing it since it came out :thumb:

... Okay then...
Anyway, yes, the Invisible War setting is based off a combination of all three Deus Ex endings. The trick with Invisible War is that it's not a bad game, in itself, but for many of us, fans of the original, it had the horrid disadvantage of being a sequel to it, and one that changed a lot in terms of gameplay, by means of simplification and exclusion.
I remember that the first time I picked up Invisible War, I played it for roughly half an hour (until I got my first augs), and I was so disappointed overall that I quit and put the CD on a shelf where it stayed for two months or so. Then I decided to give the game another chance, got over my initial dismay, and it turned out to be quite an enjoyable experience. It's a fairly good game, worth playing, but I'd recommend thinking of it as a new game altogether, rather than a sequel to the original Deus Ex.

I never played IW and most likely never will, due to things like "universal ammo." Come on.
As for IW mimicking reality, Deus Ex did a good job of that two. A government over-reacting to terrorism and thus laying the groundwork for others to take over without popular consent. It always struck me as insightfulness on the part of the developers, but it could just be coincidence.

Since the game predated the Sep 2001 US terrorist attacks, its legacy certainly benefits from coicidence. But even if history were different in the years following its release, it would still be an amazing plot.
I remember passing over the game when it came out because of the conspiracy-based plot. The reviews made it sound too X-Files for me, and I hated that show. But when I finally did play it in early 2001, I was totally blown away. I've never played a game or watched a movie with a plot so deep and relevent.
IW was good too, just not as good. Despite the weaknesses in gameplay and level design, it's worth playing.
