It may seem like a random question, but I am having a go at creating a Morrowind mod, and it would be helpful for the backstory if someone could tell me how old Dunmer get to and how many years a Dunmer generation is. Other races might be useful too.
I would guess they live a long time, but then I would have guessed dwarves were short, so I may well be wrong.

Well, I don't know myself, but, you might very well find out at (
http://til.gamingsource.net/) . AKA the Imperial Library, and contains in depth information about Tamriel, and may contain information about each species.

Oddly, I don't think that link or the UESP have any info expressly on Dunmer longevity rates. I recall a fanfic author positing that ordinary Dunmer could live for around a millennium, but I've no idea if that was speculation, or was from info within one of the games. Checking out transcriptions of in-game books may be your only option.

I had a quick look at the Imperial Library, and there was no where obvious that would have the info.
I have another couple of questions about names. Is the Dunmer's second name a family name? Orcs are usually Something gra-Something or Something gra-Something. I wondered if it depended on their sex?

I'm led to beleive their second name is a family name....{Dunmer second name that is}

Barenziah is born 2E 893 (Second era ends 3 years later on 2E 896), and is still alive when Oblivion takes place; 3E 433. Which makes her 436 years old. I think most mer races live to 300ish years. Uriel Septim was born 3E 346 and was killed at 87 years of age. So human races are probably around 100 years or so. Not much information on Orcs, Khajiit or Argonians though.

Gra is female, gro is male.
Second name is family name, like in real life, the wife gives up her family name when married and takes up the husband's (unless they all marry their sisters)
Elves in general can live about 1000 years but most healthy individuals live only about 700 years, the less fortunate only about 500. Wizards however are able to prolong their lifespan to the full 1000 and beyond, I think most of the telivanni councillors are 1000-1200 years old. I think the generation gap is usually about 100 years. I know it is mentioned in a MW book, can't remember what, it is probably where you least expect it, I'm not too sure if fertility age of dunmer is mentioned in a book, I think there may be suggestions in the game but I think there is a book with high elf fertility age mentioned and I gather all the elves are similiar in aging.

Might I ask where you are getting this specific information?

I never could be bothered to read it, but maybe the book "Ancestors of the Dunmer" could help?
