Today I beat him. Made the Bloodmoon prophecy stop. It was his mistake that he was trying to fight it on the even grounds with me. But god-like, as he may have been, I guess he didn't know that my hand had made an early end to a few other quasi-deities. Almalexia is no longer being a psycho, just a memory, a belief in the minds of all the people who refuse to believe that the priests taught wrong, being mostly misguided themselves. Dagoth Ur wanted it all for himself, but all he's got was a lot of dust to bite.
And now this... Hircine. He appears and thinks it would be amusing to have three characters first fight amongst themselves, and then create a "hunt". And, to make things less trivial, he throws in a host of those growling flea-bags. The only problem is, I didn't see anyone laughing, and he certainly wasn't the last to have a good healthy laugh, because his health has left the building. Or the glacier, in this case.
But don't get me wrong, it was by no means a simple thing to do. I was just back from the chat with Skaal shaman. He seemed worried a lot about some ancient legend, but I was just sick and tired of all the cold and frost and wind. You see, I had just raided this ice castle for a snow giant, only to find that he wasn't there. So I took the fastest trip back to my newly-built stronghold on the friendly and warm Odai Plateau (I've made myself this very useful amulet which transports me home instantly no matter where I am. Or so I had thought). And burdened with all the stuff I've collected, I've decided to ease on the stuff a little. So I put all the extra weapons in the closet, the alchemist ingredients in the chest, and I neatly arranged the soul gems on the top of the drawer chest. I know I did have some second thoughts, thinking how morbid this is, having the gems charged with souls of various (invariantly bad) souls. But I thought it was a pretty sight anyway, the one I turned in for the night in my mind with.
So, just imagine my dismay, when I get butally awoken by the above mentioned fur bags. What followed, was a total blackout, then this clown appears explaining to me about a hunt. And I thought, go hount yourself, and wanted to teleport back home. But, surprise, surpise, that failed completely. I've been in this situation before, of course, but at least I have been asked if I'd been ready to go. Well, not this time. I was stuck in those freezing holes, with a scarce supply of potions, no gems to recharge my trusty Trueflame. The blade rocked while charged, but when it was empty, it offered little support against those hellish claws of the werewolves.
I was grateful to see that Captain Carius was there. To fight him because the clown of Hircine said only one of the three is to get out of there? No, thanks, I needed all the help I could get. Plus, I'd promissed I'd find and bring him back to the Frostmoth. He offered a great cover, and the werewolves diminished even before one could say 'howl'. Too bad he then wanted to be left behind.
So then I meet Heart-Fang. The meeting was much less warm, as it turned out the silly git was getting homicidal, and in the werewolf form, too. Sadly enough, his last howl went unheard for anyone but myself. It wasn't very happy for me either, becuse now I was out of companions to help me against the dogs, I was out of charge in Trueflame, tired, battered and severely low on the potions. And when I almost dispaired, I realised that I was still carrying the blade Skaal shaman had given me. It was still fully charged, and walzed right through the last three werefolves, which otherwise would very likely have done me in.
This success has given me fresh strenghts, which, surprisingly, came of very good use when defeating that silly giant. Funily enough, halfway through the fight the giant decided to flee. But the doors weren't there, so the next door he was knocking on, were those of the heaven (or hell, probably).
So for the final ha-ha, that Hircine appears, and tries to trick me with some kind of a choice of an opponent. Well, I have a few tricks up my sleeves myself then, one goes by the name Heart Ring, a conjured "friend" from hell to confuse him, and Trueflame to... well, burn, baby, burn!
And now it's time for me to get some rest in my bed (and those unused soul gems surely look amusing now). Good night!

Heh, the was great! I love these stories people are writing. I was much more ready to fight when I was taken to the hunt... My mistake lay in using the shield I have to recover health. My block skill was high and after three werewolves, the shield broke leaving me without any source of recovery.
I'm interested in which you picked at the end though. Was it Strength, Speed or Guile?
The Huntsman on 28/9/2003 at 00:14
It was strength for me -- my knight character is best equipped to go toe-to-toe. I picked speed first but got too damned frustrated chasing that stupid pooch around!
It's easy enough to stand there and slug it out with the big bear -- I just swigged down some mead and fired away! Didn't take too long.
Out of all there, I think the guile aspect is the most challenging, due to the uber-weapon he has.

I picked strength too, then found out afterwards you got a cool weapon for picking Guile sooo... It's not exactly cheating, is it? I used the console to bring Hircine up, then I killed him, took the weapon and disabled the treasure thing I got from the Strength bear thing...
Couldn't be cheating...

I chose the Guile (I didn't really know what each choice would bring me to, but I had a good guess). I then invoked the Heart Ring effects, and they seemed to have worked nicely against the offensive enchantments. Plus, the creature I summoned helped draw attention while I was beating the bloke with Trueflame :)
At the point when I was in the inner circle and had only 3 werewolves left to beat, I was really desperate and compelled to cheat, but luckily enough I didn't have to. Bottom line, the result was much more satisfying than, say, if I was loaded with potions and could recharge the weapons at will.
What I don't understand is why the snow giant lost interest in fight halfway through, and ran away... It was a hard job beating him even in this way, with my weapons already in a bad condition.

You got that right. As for the snow giant running away, I
think all NPC's will run from you, depending on your reputation, level, etc. Not really sure though... I know I've had guards run from me.
