Has this gone on the back burner or something?
vBulletin 3 is rather nice in various installations I've seen so far.

We are, I have been beavering away at the TTLG-Style for quite a while now and think it is just about public-ready. It is suprising just how much needs changing!
There is a chance we may upgrade the server soon and it makes little sense to have two lots of downtime (one for the forum upgrade, and one for the server) so we'll probably leave it until then which shouldn't be too long!
I hacked in a couple of options for having the profile information at the top or the left and whether DHTM menus are used or not. I did this on a user-level rather than a global level as I think there will be some people who don't like (or can't use) the DHTML menus.

There don't seem to be any member-related option buttons on the posts, profile, send PM etc.
Looks pretty good.

The first and last screenshots have the DHTML menus activated. This replaces all the buttons with a link on the username in the post that has a small slidy menu which you can see active in the second screenshot I posted.
As that is a global switch in the control panel I altered the code to allow members to select whether they want DHTML menus or traditional images for buttons in their own control panel.
In the second screenshot I have taken all four possible combinations and put them together.
The top section of that second screenshot shows post info at the left of the post and uses traditional (vB2) buttons. This is close to what we currently have in vB2.
The second section shows the post info at the left of the post, but uses DHTML popup menus.
The third section show post info at the top of the post and uses traditional buttons.
The final section of the second screenshot shows the post information at the top of the post but uses DHTML menus.

Certainly looks cleaner and without the mess of all the buttons. Yay for Dave and the VB3 or whatever it's called! :cheeky:
Mmm... a custom title? Will that be a new feature?
Gingerbread Man on 29/3/2004 at 18:23
Only as far as they're used now.

I love the DHTML user menu as shown in screen 2/2. It takes a bit to get used to it, but it makes the page clearer, and I guess it will also make it load faster, if all the icons go away.
I can't wait to see it here. :D

Yeah, custom titles won't be available to members. On that test forum we're just playing :p
This is what it looks like right now!
Inline Image:
http://www.concretedonkey.net/img/vb3/vb3_4.pngObviously this is with post info on the left and using DHTML menus, but that is what I anticipate most people to use!
[Edit] Er, that DHTML menu is out of position because I set it up at 1280x1024 and then resized the window. They actually appear with the username over the username in the post![/Edit]

Just wondering like, but will our profile information (for example post count) be deleted when you upgrade? Can the old (archived) messages still be read normally after that?
David on 29/3/2004 at 21:41
Everything like that will remain exactly as it is. Post counts will be the same, old links to old threads will still work etc. The postcounts were lost once before when we we had some database funkyness switching between Ultimate Bulletin Board and vBulletin which are totally different pieces of forum software by different developers etc.
