We're getting our Arx. How shall we celebrate? - by Digital Nightfall

Daxim,
Most of the complaints you have about the interface come from the German version that got released in July. Since then, the US version has new controls (that you can have in the german patch 1.131 in fact). I would recommend you play with the new controls and see if they satisfy you more.
If you download the patch and run the game it will stay with the old controls until you edit the cfg.ini and set newcontrols to 1 (we did this so players who didn't want to change their controls don't get confused).

He has always contributed thoughtful disscussions on these forums.

Originally posted by Daxim The sad thing is, Arx fails miserably in the one thing a game MUST NOT fail - the interface.I don't think Arx FAILS with its interface. Deus-ex and SS2 both had difficult interfaces to become accustomed to. Like Arx, they both took practice to master - and not that much practice. All and all, Arx's interface isn't THAT much different than either of these games.
I'll admit - the first 15 minutes I played of the Arx demo were disorienting, but after becoming used to the controls, the interface was easy!

So from a frustrated but fair gamer to another: is it worth your ++ bucks? - No.
Go buy (http://www.unrealtournament2003.com/) UT2 instead. If you want Arx anyway because all the cool kids on TTLG have it, at least wait until it is in the bargain bin. UT2K as a substitute for Arx??????????????????
PAH!
UT2K certainly has its place, but NOT in the same category as Arx.
I'll stick with Arx for now.
One last thought: Why does it seem that most people's reaction to this game are either that they LOVE it, or that they HATE it?
Alkene.

When I first played the latest demo, I went from hating the interface to loving it in about 2 minutes. It really isn't bad when you figure it out, certainly not as bad as Gothic's IMO.

Hha. Haha. HAHAHA. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA. BWAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!
If anyone's "ad hominem," it's you buddy. Your blatant distaste for Arx Fatalis spews over your post far more fluidly than my likeness of it.
sarcasm
Yes! Especially if you're too incompetent to learn how to use a two-mode interface. God forbid you have to remember to right-click when you want that item! Jee-zus! What in the shit were those French bastards thinking when they made this thing????

Well, I just learned what could be the deciding factor in all of this.
To my knowledge, Arx Fatalis is the only FPS/RPG that allows you to bake bread.
Need I say more? :cheeky:

When I played the latest Demo, I found the interface to be clumsy and somewhat difficult to use. I may be spoiled from Thief tho. From the various reviews I have read, it sounds like this game was attempting to accomplish too much and failed. Guess its back to Thief FM's for me..:p
