We're getting our Arx. How shall we celebrate? - by Digital Nightfall

Yes, Fafhrd is quite correct. Digi is a lucky bastard :p. Although I have a self-imposed exile from the forums in place for the next 6 weeks (to help me catch up on a lot of things), Digi's post has roused me to offer my feelings of excitement for the release of this game. I have been more excited about the release of this game than other title in development, since I first heard about Arkane Studio's plane to make an underworld styled game. Unfortunately, I also had to witness Daxim's usual charmless antics as well.

I must agree with you, Daxim, but most of these things doesn't disturb me. ;)
But the interface IS a pain!

The interface is great - much better than SS2's version. You CAN assign 2 keys to commands, and combat is a blast - much more enjoyable than the combat in Thief.

Yeah, but they both use swords, dont they?

Combat is a blast, I fully agree.
I suppose blocking will be implemented?

Wow Daxim, that was extremely unecessary in this thread. Anyway.
The interface is a lot easier to use than the one in System Shock 2. It's laughable at best to say otherwise, since the difference between the two is so minute it doesn't really make much a difference. I have found Arx's interface to be very fluid and easy to use, but of course there are those of us who don't like small menus and dragging objects (strain on that middle finger, after all).
The AI, I think, is pretty god damn good for an RPG. Hell, it's pretty damn good for ANY game. It utterly blows away the half-assed scripts Morrowind and every other CRPG has ever had--EVER. I'd like someone to find an RPG where the enemies just don't come rushing at you from all sides a la MW, System Shock 2 and NWN. Arx's actually think. You can sneak around them, and when they see, some will form groups, cast spells, use items, run or go it alone. All in real time.
You know what? Why do I -- and others -- keep comparing Arx to Thief and System Shock? Arx is a full, flat-out RPG with all the features a medieval FPS can possibly have--plus more! Thief was an adventure game, and SS2 was an adventure game with four-level stats. Deus Ex? Your preference, but I seriously believe that Arx rules the world of atmosphere...Deus Ex comes in miles behind it.
Not to mention combat is loads of fun! Beats the hell out of Thief (why compare?) or Morrowind or NWN any day of the week.
I don't even know what else Daxim et al are complaining about, since I didn't bother to read his post in full. Because I don't really care to respond.

FWIW, I had very little difficulty with the interface modes; they seemed pretty intuitive to me. It certainly isn't perfect -- I recall I had a few minor issues with some of the default behaviours, and it may well be that some clever re-engineering could create a more streamlined version -- however it worked just fine for the most part, and is a far cry from being a 'disaster'. It most certainly didn't disuade me in any way from ordering the game.

Originally posted by Storybuilder I have a silly question, but what kind of hardware will Arx need? I've got a PIII 550 with 128 Ram and a TNT2 video card. I haven't had any problems with Thief 1 or 2, or any other game for that matter. Will this be enough?
(I plan to upgrade later, but it's low on my list of needs right now)
Thanks,
-Storybuilder How much memory does your video card have? Your processor doesn't cut it, though, and your memory is pushing the limit (with that PIII, at least). If you don't upgrade, you'll probably wind up running Arx at its absolute lowest settings (or any other new game coming out, for that matter...).
