I can't stand most music posted here, anyway my favorite album of the year was :Manowar - Gods Of War, brilliant in every Manowar way, and Ozzie's new album isn't bad at all. I also enjoyed W.A.S.P - Dominator, exelent album.

I'm not sure I have a top 10 of 2007, but there's surely stuff I discovered this year which impressed me most (in no particular order) :
Devin Townsend - (http://www.myspace.com/ziltoidtheomniscient) Ziltoid the OmniscientA progressive metal space opera with none of the pedantry of Dreamtheater and all the absurd of Burton. WHAT MORE CAN I SAY ?
(http://www.myspace.com/jonathancoulton) Jonathan Coulton - Still AliveThis was nothing short of a TRIUMPH.
(http://www.myspace.com/iliketrains) iLiKETRAiNS - Elegies to Lessons LearntIt would be easy to put this in boring-emo-post-rock. Except that it is not, it is awesome, clever, powerful and emotional. And they rocked Paris :D (too bad I was the only one to know the lyrics in the audience).
(http://www.myspace.com/etjusticepourtous) Justice - †What they said.
(http://www.lastfm.fr/music/Various+Artists/Entering+the+Levitation%3A+a+tribute+to+SKEPTICISM) Entering the Levitation: a tribute to SKEPTICISMFinnish Funeral Doom Metal ! An excellent tribute, condensing in one outing the essence of funeral doom.
(http://www.myspace.com/thegoteam) The Go! Team - Proof of YouthI was so impressed the first time I heard The Go! Team that I kept my hopes low for the second album. So when I received the little package in my mailbox I didn't expect how it would have turned out : fantastic. It's everything the first album has with more melodies, more sophistication while retaining the same amount of pure joy and visceral need to dance over it.
Glen Hansard - (http://www.myspace.com/oncesoundtrack) Once SoundtrackBecause I am helplessly romantic and loved the movie to no end (It came out in France only months ago BTW so - 2007).
(http://www.myspace.com/thechemicalbrothers) The Chemical Brothers - We are the NightA pretty cool album. I like it much more than their previous album, glad to see they can come back in some ways to their roots.
(http://www.myspace.com/kapbambino) Kap Bambino - Zero Life, Night VisionA 2006 album. French touch dirty punk electroclash, how can you get any sexier ? (ps : the music rocks)
Augie March - Moo, you Bloody Choir limited edition bonus discStrange to include a Bonus disc in that list, but I already mentioned Moo, you Bloody Choir in last year's thread. The limited edition came out this year and has some of my favourite tracks played live with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. I'm crying only to think about it.

Unusually, I actually listened to to something released this year. I downloaded Radiohead's album to give it a try, and was pleased to hear the first song was in an unusual time signature, but I only got half way through (the album) before losing interest. I'll probably have to give it another try at some point, but usually I only enjoy things that are less "more of the same" (which seems to be the way some people look at music they like) and more quirky and experimental - which Radiohead manages perhaps half the time. The other half doesn't really do anything for for me.

I really wanted to love this (the previous compilation EP was pretty good, and "Terra Nova" was an excellent single), plus I can't get enough of bands po-faced enough to base their songs on semi-obscure historical events.
Unfortunately, I thought it was terribly produced - to the point where the complete lack of dynamic range crippled most of the songs. It's uniformally LOUD throughout, even in the parts which are supposed to be quiet .. so there's no sense of building to the climaxes. That and the odd bit of clipping make it a tough listen for me.
I'm not trying to UNDERMINE your enjoyment for it in any way; played live I'd imagine the songs are especially brilliant. If I could get past how I feel about the production/mixing, it'd be straight in my Best Of 2007 list too. Maybe it'll get a re-release!

It's been a pretty crappy year for experimental music imho.

disheartening lack of LCD Soundsystem in this thread. :(
As for experimental, well, Liars and Deerhoof are very non-standard, and otherwise you just have to know where to look. The record store I mentioned earlier is stocking brand new bizarre shit every week.

2007 has been a great year for a connoisseur such as myself.
The top ten, in no particular order:

Watain - Sworn to the Dark

Toroidh - Segervittring

Ulver - Shadows of the Sun
Amorphis - Silent Waters
Puissance - Grace of God

It was a decent album, particularly "North American Scum," as I mentioned in my post. But it's not one I'm finding myself going back to nearly as much as the others in my list. I'm surprised there hasn't been another mention of Dan Deacon here, as that's one of the ones I've listened to the most. It's all the manic energy of saturday morning cartoons shoved through the filter of circuit-bent 8-bit synths. I can't say no to that.
Also, I just bought
Justice - "†", and it can totally be added to my Top Albums list, for all the reasons mentioned above.

Sound of Silver is the only album in my list that I don't doubt I'll be listening to for the rest of my life. I would argue that Murphy's first album is just "decent", but on this new one he's managed to take the highs of the original and craft a real album out of it, as opposed to a collection of singles (albiet some very good ones). Sound of Silver feels like a classic already, more so than In Rainbows or anything else I've heard this year.
...ok so I'll probably still be listening to Stars of the Lid in 20 years, but that's not really the same thing.

Holy shit. The last track on this LCD Soundsystem record is the Lou Reed song that never was. Anyway, I dunno if this album is better than the first one, but it's certainly just as good.
I didn't even realize Stars of the Lid still existed. I guess I'll have to pick their new one up too.
