Not the best albums but my personal favourites. I wouldn't even know where to start anyway.
10. An End Has a Heart - Editors. If you're into Snowpatrol, coldplay and Interpol? Then you will like the Editors. They deliver exactly what they did in their 2005 debut The Back Room
9. Blue Finger - Black Francis. Fun, fun, fun. Kicks of with a right rocer Captain Pasty. Brings to mind Bowie and Talking Heads. Kind of cool, different from what I'd generally listen to.
8. Challengers- New Pornographers.
7American Idiot- Greenday..yes that's right. I loved it.
6. In Rainbows- Radiohead. Their best work since Kid A. How do they still make music this good?
5. Icky Thump- white Stripes.
4. Them vs You vs Me- Finger Eleven
3. Foo Fighters-Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace.
2. Da Drought 3 Lil Wayne. a most balling mixtape.
1.Hospital Music-Mathew Good

American Idiot was released a little over 3 years ago...
Also the opening rap from Stronger is pretty damn good but the rest of the track seems to fade in quality from there, alas

The only thing I've really liked this year that I've heard so far is THE HIVES BLACK AND WHITE. I just don't get how some critics can look at a sequoia and say yeah but how much has it grown in 4 years? WTFyou, it's a sequoia! And it's like they took all the goodness of "Guess Again if I Don't" and put it in 8 more songs... and a little in 4 strange ones. Anyone who doesn't like these guys just doesn't like fun because this is 100% pure concentrate of fun.
Interpole wasn't my cup of tea. How do you take a song like "No I in Threeesome" and make it a monotone dirge? Sorry Scots I tried.
Is the new BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB any better than the HOWL CD? That was okay but damn near retro bluesy.

I have a hard time actually ranking shit, and 2007 was a weak year for new releases for some reason (most of my real top 10 would include stuff like finally having the good original mix of Piper at the Gates of Dawn on CD). My top 10 in no specific order:
*Von Südenfed - Tromatic Reflexxions - I'm Not a big Mark E Smith fan, but Jan St Werner has never made a bad album as far as I can tell.
*Trans Am - Sex Change
*Low - Drums and Guns
*The Rentals - The Last Little Life
*Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero - I've always been in love with Reznor's music, but he needs to either find a lyrical partner, go the Damo Suzuki route and make everything indecipherable, or stop using vocals. It is, however, good to see that after 20 years of NIN he's finally moved from writing in the style of a suicidal 12 year old girl to a know-it-all 13 year old boy. Trent gets bonus points for inadvertantly making me chuckle everytime I see the latest thread in the Bioshock forum is "I Gave Up".
*Saul Williams - The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! - This is exactly what I've wanted ever since the killer NIN remix of Puff Daddy's Victory.
Somehow, I can't think of 4 more.
Edit: Do Make Say Think - You, You're a History in Rust. Somehow I didn't realize that was from this year.
I haven't heard Serj's album yet, but I'd be surprised if it were less than excellent. Same with the new LCD Soundsystem.

You guys all listen the exact same bands. It's like inbreeding.
Just for you, ten releases that haven't been mentioned yet. No individual descriptions because I'm lazy.
1. Neurosis - Given to the Rising
2. Dälek - Abandoned Language
3. Nadja - Thaumogenesis
4. Grails - Burning Off Impurities
5. Ulver - Shadows of the Sun
6. Buried at Sea - Ghost
7. The Hidden Hand - The Resurrection of Whiskey Foote
8. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - In Glorious Times
...shit, I ran out. Here are some honorable mentions, because I discovered them this year.
The Twilight Singers - Blackberry Belle & Powder Burns
I'd avoided listening to them for a while because I couldn't believe they'd be as good as The Afthan Whigs. Turns out, they're
better.

1. Frog Eyes - Tears of the Valedictorian
2. Battles - Mirrored
3. Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
4. Radiohead - In Rainbows
5. Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb
6. I guess Deerhoof? I don't really buy new new music.
Also: Sound of Silver makes me :( and Rainbow is the best song on Mirrored.

Just to tack on an extra album that I forgot:
Blonde Redhead-23: I'm rather embarassed to have forgotten it in the first place as it was arguable better than any of the other albums I listed. It was just an effortless melting pot of layered, beautiful songs that somehow managed to be edgy and laid back at the same time. Both singers in this band were great as well. I read a review of this over at (
http://www.drownedinsound.com/release/view/9376) drowned in sound that said it was the next album you must buy, and I couldn't agree more.
