The other day I decided it was time for a reformat of my HD so I went about backing up all my important things including Morrowind save games and mods.
After reinstalling Morrowind, putting the save games and mods back into place I went into the game and instead of playing like normal I got a horde of error messages.
They were saying that there were things missing, people and such.
My save was just in front of the door to the Cavern of the Incarnate so when I got into the game I pressed T to sleep until the door was open and it gave me more errors about not being able to save properly. Then I went to open the door and got another couple of errors and the screen froze except for Morrowinds cursor which was the only thing I could use. :p
I had to reboot and haven't tried the game again.
Anyone know what's up?
I really don't want to start again. :erg:

If people, items are missing... then that means the mods are not working properly... if you reinstall morrowind and try to use old saves... theres a million things that go wrong...
First... certain global scripts... like the main script... is one script some mods edit. The thing is, if you try to load 6 mods that edit the main script all at once, only the last mod loaded will take effect. You can fix this by loading 1 mod, then load 2 of them, then load 3.... etc.
Also, when you said you backed up the mods... did you just save the esp, or did you save the nif files, textures, sounds, and everything. You will get lots of errors if you didnt save those too. If you didnt save those files, your gonna have to redownload the zip files for the mods again.
Those 2 things are probably the only things wrong... but there might be more.

Mods are great but this is the one reason I try to stay away from them.. if you have to backup your file and you have tons of mods, you'll have to backup everything with the mod (textures etc), and even then there's still a chance of the game getting screwed up.

Just keep the original zipfile the plugin came in and you won't have to remember what to backup (other than the plugins you make yourself).

Good idea, that's why I use it now, after learning the hard way. :laff:
