I am DONE w/you and your crappy Vampire-ness. I have stopped playing that Thief Assassin Marksman I was playing since day 1. Erased. Vampires are WAY too restrictive, and the stealth is fun for a second, but gets tiring.
I have since made an Imperial warrior-type. He is a BEAST. This game was fun as a sneaky thief....it is 10 times as good w/a melee character. WOW!!! I can CRUSH through Oblivion gates, and I have learned just how rewarding skillfull use of the new blocking/melee system can be. This game just opened up as a melee character, for me. It no longer feels like I am fighting the game, like I did w/bows and stealth. Bravo melee!!
edit: I went w/Blunt. I have a 2 handed Elven Battle Axe.

I also have an Imperial warrior-type. Care to post your skills? I made my character - slightly - challenging.
Specialization: Combat
Favored Attributes: Strength, Luck
Major Skills:
Athletics
Blade
Block
Heavy Armor
Mysticism
Acrobatics
Marksman
I just threw in the Mysticism for the telekinesis. Since I'm more or less roleplaying, I didn't want to use security, but now wish I had. Too many locks...

Blade
Block
Blunt
Security
Athletics
Heavy Armor
Armorer
Should have ditched blade for something like resto. I was japped up about not being able to use swords. Heh, I don't miss 'em one bit. Axes RULE.
Combat
Strength, Endurance

I've found swords to be the best, as they tend to be faster, as well as the best sword in the game being available 5 minutes from your starting area.. One of the few 'uber' items that are available easily in the world at a low level(GG Bethseda, should've had that instanced once the quest was activated). Though I did spend much more time with blunt than blades. I have a full suit of daedric armor with the +blunt enchants.
But yeah, the block/attack mechanism is definitely a step in the right direction. Like Ryushi has mentioned in the past, it'd be nice to have a more demanding system that had directional blocking (block left/right etc), which would be more for sword only, not sword and board.
One failure of the system is that it's algorithmic, not reactional. So you don't react to things and block, you anticipate an opponent attacking, block, then once he is staggered you swing. Rinse and repeat.
OF course, the game breaks down when you're as good as I am, and you just swing/swing 600pt damage spell, swing swing loot.

LOL, tuco. your humor couldn't have come at a better time (bad news recently about my cancer possibly coming back) :(
Anyway, i don;t like swords. Feel too generic to me. The bunt class has character, IMHO> Plus, they have so much inertia, they throw enemies into lava, over railings, etc... good times. :thumb:

Don't worry Fig, you're bound to be fine ;)
Swords are generic, I admit, but like Tuco has said, they've got a faster attack rate and generally have more variety to them. I would completely support a mod which added more axes and blunt weapons though. Someone should get on that.

Yeah I don't know why anyone would pick Bows as a major. They only seem useful to get in free shots before you switch to melee.

He's my first character, I didn't know! I regret that, too, but... Well. I still kick ass.
I wish I'd taken Armorer and Security inplace of Marksman and Mysticism.

Yeah, I am through w/bows. Next, I am going to play a mage. The magic is very powerful in Oblivion. I put pics in the character screens thread of my Imperial, incase you wanna see.

Am I weird for favoring a ranged shot to a bladed weapon? I have a pretty decent blade rating yet for some reason I always go charging into the fray with my bow drawn. Maybe it's just because I find my style of play more fun: I take advantage of maxed Agility and Acrobatics scores and fly all over the screen, often pegging the opponent in the top of the head, with them scrambling all over trying to get me. I beat the Champion of the Arena without so much as a scratch. :)
While its not near as powerful as a melee character, I still find myself dominating most enemies, especially when my enchanted gear lets me sneak in broad daylight so there's no lack of 3x damage.
