Hi,
A friend and I are trying to play SS2 multiplayer co-op. It ran flawlessly, cutscenes played, no lag, for a while. Was even ESC (pausing) and alt-tabbing a lot and it didn't crash once.
At I think the first room where there is a container which must be hacked to open, my friend got stuck on a solid computer/desk thing that jutted out around 3 walls of that room. He was stuck and couldn't do anything - luckily I had manually saved the game right where the first ghost was. So I hit ESC and loaded the game, no big deal.
When it loaded, he said his view was sideways, and if he tried to move somewhere, it moved really fast, and if he touched anything it would get stuck on it... on my screen though I heard a death sound right when it loaded, and I turned around and he looked dead on my screen. We were like o.O and I re-loaded the same save file again. The next time I loaded the game... he couldn't move at all, and his view was tilted slightly to the side. He could see me moving around, however, but he said my guy's head was slanted/smashed (showed me a screenshot too). Another re-load attempt - initially it looked normal... and then it immediately crashed.
So, he tried to start a new single player game offline... and his view was sideways!! He had to keep starting new single player games and on the 3rd or 4th try it was "back to normal".
So... I hosted the game again and we tried loading my game again. Nope, same bug(s) re-appeared.
Then we tried starting a new game completely (online), and I said that we can just make our characters the same as before, and I'll make a new save file with these new characters, and if this one loads fine, and the old one still doesn't load, that would mean that savefile is corrupt. So we go up the grav shafts to the military branch doors... He goes through fine (we're talking on Ventrilo), then I go through mine... the video plays of my ship leaving... and then it puts me back in the bulkhead of the Navy... as if I never left. I can walk back a little and go through the Navy door again, which opens the "ship leaving" video again... but then it just puts me back in the same map again.
Seriously, what's going on? There have been like 5 different unique bugs that all randomly started after he got stuck on the computer. Does anyone have any idea how to get everything back to normal? The obvious answer would be to start a new multiplayer game from scratch but that's what we just tried and that bug I just mentioned is what happened. :/
Thanks for any advice in advance
Edit: Oh, two more bugs that have/do happen(ed) to us.
One - sometimes when I host the game and am waiting for him to connect, he will try to connect and it'll say "Players: 2" but.. he never joins and it just sits there. This only started happening after all the bugs mentioned before started.
Two - At a bulkhead the load bar got to 75% for both of us and stopped. Happened only after the aforementioned bugs.
Three - 100% load bar on his screen and stuck, 0% load bar on my screen and stuck. Again, happened only after the aforementioned bugs.
So many bugs after getting stuck on a table. :/ Why??

Multiplayer is a strange thing, and sometimes weird bugs show up.
I have no idea of what's going on there. Are you both playing the vanilla version, or do you have, by any chance, any mod installed? If you do, you'd better make sure that both players have the exact same mods on (and, of course, that those mods are compatible with MP).

No mods, but I'll ask him again if he has any, the only thing I think he used is something called ddfix. would that cause a problem if I didn't have that?

It wouldn't cause a problem if you didn't have it, but it might be causing problems on his machine. If he can run SS2 without it, then try without it.

I would recommend loading a previous save (before that accident with the table happened).ss2 multiplayer sometimes gets into unstable state, and loading an earlier save is the only thing you can do..don't forget to save often,I'm making a new save every 20minutes or so when I'm playing multiplayer..

We've ran into several problems.... somehow it worked normally from the beginning again. Eventually it crashed and apparently that deletes Quicksave and Autosave. (so when it says "Game saved!" it's not really unless you do it yourself everytime)
So we got set back really far and got through it again... then we came to some kind of dream sequence where the camera flies around in an organic area and the voices of the Many talk to you.
At this part, the game seemed to mess up because after it was over, you are supposed to like wake up and be put back into the normal level again.... but instead of doing that, it stayed in that area and we got our HUD and inventory back... and were stuck in an invisible box ....(still inside the dream sequence). To get out, we had to climb/jump out which killed us, whatever, but it set us back into the normal map again, good..
so I had about four different saves, one near the beginning of that map and the other three throughout. They are all corrupt, apparently. There was no way of knowing this but at a certain point some elevator buttons just were not there. We got around this but now whenever this certain robot comes out, it ALWAYS crashes me.
Is there a cheatcode to restart the current map from a fresh start?
Edit:
Alright - lol. We started again, from the beginning. This time, I made save points at the end of every map (right before bulkheads) and at the beginning of every map (right after bulkheads). So, this time we have sufficient recovery saves. We got to the same part of the game again --- the organic, fleshy camera fly-through dream sequence thing where the voices of the Many talk to you and ask you why you fear them, and stuff, and you see the big spinning oval-shaped organ cluster thing. And the same thing happened!!! After the sequence, light flashes as if "waking up", but instead of "waking up", we are still stuck in the sequence in an invisible box. We have to climb out of the invisible box and fall down, which kills us, and then we respawn in the actual map - but after that points, things are all messed up. Certain keypads, corpses, crates, etc, will be missing for certain players. Like my friend will see a keypad, but I won't see it, and when he presses it, it doesn't do anything. It is DEFINITELY that dream sequence that is messing things up. How do we fix this? :(
Edit: It wasn't a multiplayer error, it was my map file Eng2.mis was corrupt or something. Copying it over again from the CD fixed it.

Saving before bulkheads is a basic rule of SS2 MP ;)

as a last resort, i would try re-installing SS2, and then the patch, etc.
