I've got about 600+ .mp3 files missing from the folder itunes pulls from. Everything shows up in itunes and plays without a problem, but the files are simply absent from the folder. Even when I select a file in itunes that doesn't appear in the folder and look at the info itunes provides, it directs me to the music folder where the file has (presumably) been deleted. This started after a quick disc check earlier today. I have no idea what's going on - how is it possible for itunes to locate and play a file from a location where the file doesn't exist?:confused::confused:

If it's on OSX, it might be actually playing the files right out of the trash. Either way, there's a better option for you: right click on one of the files and select "Show in Finder" (I'm guessing that's "Show in Explorer" on Windows). That should open up a new finder/explorer window with that file selected.

If the songs were bought off the iTunes store, all you have to do is fire up an HDD search by hitting Win+F and do a search for one of file names of one of your mysteriously missing songs, right click on the file, and go to "open file location". If it leads you to the exact same folder, then the only thing I can assume from there is that the file is hidden, and you'll have to go into your explorer settings and tell it to Show Hidden Files And Folders.
Alternately, if you don't know the filename of any of the songs in question, you can do a more generalized *.mp3, *.m4a or *.m4p search. That'll bring up every file with that extension though, so be prepared to do alot of scrolling.

Could be a GUI glitch; try going to the folder through the command line and see if the files show up.
