I've got two drives in my computer a CD R/W and a DVD drive. I tried installing Arx in the CD drive and guess what? It wouldn't play! The install went relatively well, but when it came time to play--nothing. The CD would spin in the CD drive for a few minutes, the mouse pointer would turn into a spinning CD, but then nada. Even when I clicked on the Arx shortcut on my desktop I still got the mouse pointer-spinning CD and then nothing. I figured it was a problem with not having the 1.17 patch installed so I downloaded the patch and guess what? The patch wouldn't install! I'd click on the patch to install it and all I'd get is a brief blip of the installation wizard and then nothing! Interestingly, the game went relatively well when used in my DVD drive (which, btw, even with the proper DVD software installed won't play DVD's but will still play CD's).
This went on for hours. Install, uninstall, download patch. Several times over I did this. Until one time (about 4 am in the morning :-)) all in the cosmos fell into its proper place. The planets were aligned, man was truly in a state of nature, and I got to install my Arx game without a problem. Even the patch went well.
So I'm curious: Why wouldn't the install work right the first time? Why did the patch behave the way it did? Why did I have to install/uninstall several times before everything worked well? I've not had problems installing other games in my CD drive on my computer so what makes this game so special?
Just curious,
John

It could have been something left over in the registry or a windows service that kept interfering with the install. Who knows?
Glad to hear that you got in running eventually anyway.

I had that problem until I rebooted my machine after install, then it worked fine.
