So I just got a new pc, with an Nvidia Geforce GT 640 (2gb), and I noticed in some games that the details are not as clear as with my old pc (which had a Geforce 7100, 256mb). Doom 3 for instance, here's a shot of the fists. On top is how they looked in my old pc, and at the bottom how they look now (with ultra quality and decent resolution):

hmm, slightly left field thought but is it the same game? You didn't go grab BFG edition for convenience or something?. I heard that was basically the cut down console version repackaged is all.
You probably know this, but it came to mind.

It's the original version. Strangely enough, I'm playing the Dark Mod on it, and that actually looks perfectly fine

Try copying your old config over the new one, it looks like maybe the game auto-detected some settings differently, defaulting to shittier textures/shaders?

Looking at the images it shows the texture resolution on the second pic is lower. Check your Doomconfig.config file, you'll probably find that Doom3 has incorrectly detected your GT640 card and set lower than optimal settings.
As for The Darkmod, the team has stripped most of that crap out so it looks good no matter what GFX card you have or whither its ATi or nVidia.

Thanks, I'll have a look

Ok I figured it out. The seta image_downSize line had a value of 1 (which kills the bump mapping from the looks of it) instead of 0.
Thanks again everyone
