In the last week Firefox won't start if I've had it open and closed it. Its still there in the processes in Task Manager but I have to end the process if I want to start it again.
Anyone else having issues like this?

Have you tried it with a new profile?
Change the Firefox shortcut so it is firefox.exe -p and create a new profile. If it works properly then I'd start by clearing cache and cookies and then disabling extensions one by one until I found the culprit.

Same, even more weird issue for me. On some computers it suddenly stops browsing after about 2 hours of normal work. All menus work as usual, but it simply won't connect to any sites, and if any downloads are running, they stop. After that, if I close it, it still hangs in the processes list. It doesn't depend on plugins, skins, settings or any user data — tried fresh install, same thing. Firewalls and antiviruses are not the issue too. It also doesn't depend on sites I'm browsing — I can start it and leave with about:blank page for several hours and then find it in that half-frozen state.
For some time I had Firefox Portable on my flash drive, and saw that on some machines it hangs, on some ones it doesn't. It began from Firefox 2.0 and still persists till the latest version of Firefox 3. I'm totally baffled of what causes such behavior.

this is a known issue, go into task manager and then kill off fire fox. I believe its an extension as Dave mentioned that isn't shutting down correctly that's causing this..

Ah, I see.
