Weird crash when going up the ladder from coolant tubes to medical - by edpfister

I read all the posts on how to get SS2 working and it has been working fine up until the point where I try to climb out of the coolant tubes area and return to the medical area. This seems very odd as I was in this area earlier and there were no issues. The game doesn't exactly crash but the screen is mostly frozen but some wire-frame rooms appear to be falling away from me after the load screen. I can't move but can bring up the map, menu, etc but they won't go away after that. I was just wondering if anyone had seen a similar issue and if so what was the fix? I am using an NVidia 7800 card, AMD Athlon 3200 with 1 gig of RAM.

I think your video card is faulty. You should send it over here for more testing.

Hehe. Is this game patched?
Sounds like what I see when I play through dromed and enter "physics".

I checked on the patches scrolls website and only saw a multiplayer patch and an unofficial patch. What patch are you referring to?
Also I forgot to mention I have the high res texture pack (SHTUP: The System Shock 2 Texture Upgrade Project) installed.
I managed to turn on the power in my game so that the elevator now works but I get the same problem accessing level 2 with that as I do with the ladder.

The multiplayer patch also incorporates other fixes. If you have a 'Multiplayer' button on your main menu then you already have the patch, if you you can grab it (
http://www.sshock2.com/files/shkpatch.exe) here.

I do have a multiplayer button so I guess I have the patch (I installed it a while ago). I actually tried running the game also on my older laptop with the current saves and although I can get to level 2 I start a little bit inside the floor and there are no items or creatures and nothing is useable or animated. It's still unplayable unfortunately. I also saved there and copied it back to my main PC and it is exactly the same as it is on the laptop.

Try copying medsci1.mis from the cd to your game dir. Possibly you'll also need to start a new game if the save is corrupt.
Do you use any gameplay changing mods like ADAOB, SecMod, etc.?

I went back to an old save where I was still in the med section, went down the ladder then went right back up and it worked fine. I guess my save file is corrupt. Sucks that I have to go back so far but at least I can play it. Thanks for the help.
