Weird Bug (goals not completing - poss spoilers?)... - by scglass

Right,
I'm playing Deus Ex (v1.104fm) and the following happens:
Whenever I select one of the special options in a computer screen I get no acknowledgement from the game, either in message, goal completed or skill point awards.
Here are some specific examples:
The first time this happens is when I am attempting to transmit the NSF distress signal. After aligning the dishes in the first computer and sending the distress signal from the second computer I do not get a "goal completed" message, I also do not get the betrayal message from Walton Simons, I do get all the UNATCO guards going hostile. I can return to the 'ton and the game will let me play on, however I am stuck with the "send the NSF distress signal" goal incomplete.
This subsequently happens every time I am to achieve a goal by clicking on a special option in a computer screen. Here's a shortlist where it has happened elsewhere:
* Scuttling the PCS Wall Cloud by reversing the bilge flow. I get no confirmation that the reversal has happened and the goal does not clear, also curiously enough my save game option is disabled until I transition to a new map
* Triggering the "contact Everett" option in the DuClare mansion. I do not get a confirm message from Everett and the goal does not clear, however the MJ12 commandos spawn.
* I also have the make contact with the Illuminati goal incomplete, despite me being in Everett's home - although I am not sure why it was not marked complete.
What gives? Does anyone know what causes this and/or how I can avoid it?

Right now, I'm stuck in Paul's apartment with invincible MIBs outside the door because I failed to complete the goal of meeting Jock at the helipad.
Previously, I had beaten the game without completing the goal where Tracer Tong was suppose to message me about the Dragon Tooth.

lol, i remember the first time i went thought deus ex, i didnt save the hostages in the subway, by castle clinton, all through out the game, that objective stayed with me.

The "NSF transmission" one has always been tagged as "not completed" in my MFD although I received Simons' message and everything else. I never understood why. And the problem migrated from Win98 to WinXP when I switched computers.
But I can always come back to Paul and contact that guy in Paris and complete the missions. But that objective stays unchecked no matter the order I plug the antennas in.

I've managed to pin down when it happens for me. It occurs whenever an incoming message, which includes a goal completion event, arrives while you are still accessing a computer. The NSF distress signal is a good example.
I've also discovered that the latest multiplayer patch 1112fm patch has a fix for exactly this issue. The readme with the patch in the area "spoilers" says:
"If you receive a datalink while logged into a computer, the datalink now plays properly when you exit the computer. This was most noticeable when sending the transmission to the NSF after Paul asks you to do so."
So... after downloading and installing the patch, start new game, got to NSF HQ, I successfully sent the distress signal, received a goal complete, and the message from walton simons....
problem solved? ... does it (or other goal incompletes) happen for others at this patch level?

Weird... even before 1112 I never had this bug. Only uncomplete mission was that with gary savage but that was long ago and I think 2. time when I played it(It was a bug I´m sure).
And hostages... right... Ive found it somewhat hard to complete the task with all the hostages alive. They are really devoted but a candle(or something else that makes nise) does the trick as I found out. Last time I played I completed NY with all NSF guys alive and sometimes bleeding. But UNATCO troopers never saw me coming.

I've had the problem with the NSF distress signal too; I think it happens when you don't align all the dishes (i.e. press all the buttons) properly then try to send the code. I still got the message from Simons though. Anyway, the goal would time out eventually, probably when you get to Hong Kong, I imagine.

Just recently I got the Dragon Tooth blade and received the message from Tong after I got the blade telling me to go get it?!!? Now I have it (the sword) and in my goals lists it says I need to still get the Dragon Tooth blade!
