I recently bought Deus Ex: Invisible War and Thief: Deadly Shadows, since I finally had a good enough PC to run them both comfortably. However, when I tried to run them, the performance was... shall we say, less than satisfactory. The MENUS ran at about 5fps. Which was ridiculous, since my PC is roughly double the minimum requirements. Turning everything down to minimum and tweaking the hell out of the configs yielded no improvement whatsoever.
I was reduced to randomly swapping out drivers for all my components, disabling acceleration features and suchlike - to no avail. I was teetering on the brink of madness when as a last resort I tried unplugging random peripherals from my PC and - miracle of miracles - it worked!
The culprit was my ThrustMaster Firestorm Dual Analog 2 gamepad, or maybe the driver I got for it from Windows Update.
Anyways, when I disable it both Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 runs great. If your experience of these games is plagued by inexplicable performance issues, something like this might be the cause.
