I've searched through this forum but I really don't know what I'm searching for. I hope someone here can help or perhaps direct me to the right place. Google found one page with the same problem but the suggestions there didn't do anything.
My son has updated his website. If he types http etc. the name.co.uk then he's directed to the new website. If he types (
www.the) name.co.uk then he's directed to the old website. This is in IE and Firefox. I get the new website no matter what I do. On another computer in his office, IE comes up with the new website but Firefox with the old.
All history, cookies, cache, forms etc. have been cleared. DNS has been flushed. IE has been set to check for new version. Cleanup's been run. Rebooting after the cleaning etc. The IP address of the old and the new is the same. And I've spent all day so far googling this problem without any luck and without any real understanding. It's XP Pro by the way.
Any help would be gratefully received before he takes a hammer to his computer and has to revert to his laptop which he was going to give me. :)

DNSes take some time to propagate fully. Also, he should check that the DNS entry for his website has both 'A' DNS fields redirecting to the new site.
(the site.co.uk). 10800 IN A (IP address)
(www.(the) site.co.uk). 10800 IN A (IP address)Forget about that, I didn't see that the IP address was the same.
If everything is OK DNS-side, the configuration of the web server might be erroneous. He should check with his host.

Thank you very much - I'll pass that on.
Actually some pinging has revealed some problems with the IP address so many thanks again.
And a final update for future reference by anybody. The problem was caused by a defunct hosts file.
