So I'm trying to ramp up my coding activities and so I need a really good environment for it.
I code mostly HTML, CSS, JavaScript and I really like syntax highlighters. I've been using Notepad++ on my PC recently and it's okay. I've used a few syntax highlighters over the years and none have been amazing. I like to do my own handcoding but I'm quite keen on being able to create some auto insert templates now so that would be nice.
And I'd really like to be able to FTP straight to the web from within the coding application so I can test things locally and then deploy instantly without having to turn on Filezilla. I know its a small thing, but it would be really, really nice.
I recently got Bluefish which seems alright. There is also a Mac version which would also be ideal. Google shows up an ftp plugin for it in the global search history but I must be a bit daft because I can't find it!

Well I've just Dled this and I'm playing about with it. Seems solid and I've got the FTP deployer plugin. Thanks Al, this looks like it could do the job nicely.

I've been using Netbeans and its overly complex in that it wants to deal with projects and I like to use my own tried and tested file and folder structures.
I've decided to use Filezilla after all and I'll be using Dropbox to sync my files between my Mac and PC.
What I need now is a really good cross platform syntax highlighter that isn't Netbeans! Any ideas? I currently use Notepad++ on my PC.

I'm not sure I understand the argument against using projects but unless Netbeans is different on the Mac then a project just reflects the same organisation of directories and files underneath it. It doesn't force you to adopt any particular structure and you could just set up a top level project containing your entire existing file hierarchy if that's what you prefer.

You can't just create a new file in a folder, it seems it has to be part of a project.
I've switched to Bluefish which is also cross platform. I'm using Dropbox for file syncing and Filezilla for ftp duties.
It's looking smashing.
