"Hey JC, did a riot baton just extend in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"

I like a magnetic railgun that has a super-wide bore but can fire all sizes of ammo (up to the physical bore size). The barrel is only to contain the electromagnetic coils; the latter generates magnetic fields which "define" the barrel for all intents and purposes of a projectile spittingweapon.
So one has a gun with a barrel as thick as your forearm, but to fire whatever you want, all you have to to is to adjust the settings to match and load up the ammo. It probably can serve as a grenade launcher too (provided the grenade shells has enough metal to be propelled via magnetic forces). A shotgun effect might also be had by loading lots of tiny ball bearings and setting the gun to spew them all out nearly simulataneously. For armor piercing work, maybe specially made steel spikes accelerated to hypersonic speeds will do the trick.

I'd like the pistol-cannon off ace Rodriguez movie Desperado. This pistol that Antonio Banderas wields is like 4 foot long, and can blow a grown man 30 feet into the air. It is the most over the top, shocking and incredibly phallic weapon ever.
It must be included.
Even if only as an Easter Egg.

Or the Jock Strap Gun in "From Dusk Till Dawn"
Just for the comedy factor. :)

... I'm not so sure! It surprises me that so many people in this thread are for downsizing the number of weapons available to JC. Hell, if it's possible, I'd like to be able to pick up and swing chairs at people in DX2. Here's why: Even if some of the weapons were fundamentally the same, so other than a small damage and speed difference, if you intended to kill someone in melee instead of knock em out with the baton, people's decisions to use either the knife or crowbar ultimately came down to a visceral preference. Do you like bludgeoning in Deus Ex? You probably chose the crowbar. Stabbing, of course the knife. Most importantly, being able to choose lended a great deal to the connection a player made with JC. For instance, if you're more of a stealthy, ninja player, it's easy to see JC creeping up behind someone and slipping the blade between their ribs. But I think it seems weird to imagine Ninja-JC hollaring and clubbing someone with the crowbar.
What I'm getting at here is that even though there were weapons which were exceptionally similar, simply being able to encounter, pick up and use the variety of weapons made the game that much cooler. So what if two guns do virtually the same thing? If any of you have played the game Mafia (an EXCELLENT game by the way, think GTA3 with Hollywood-level directing and storyline), you'll know that other than the magnums, the pistol variants are much the same.
ahhhhhh gotta go, got to cut this short, doh!

i think that the ability to remotely detonate LAMs is a must, and maybe the other grenades as well.
i think that 2 variations on every gun would be cool, like:
pistol - silenced pistol
assault rifle that focuses on clearing rooms - more sniper like assault rifle
shorter range sniper rifle with longer clip - long long long range sniper rifle with shorter clip
GEP, but more dmg, - TFC rocket launcher, 4 rocks before reload, less dmg
i think that a reusable lockpick would be nice, but you would have to train in it, and it would take a longer time to do
also, tech goggles are sucky, how bout binoculars with perma tech gogles~
and there needs to be a way to knock people out in 1 hit from behind other then baton master skill with combat aug, and the prod.
and rope bolts, mmmmmm thiefy

i'd like to see an inventory system similar to x-com's. it's more realistic, and wouldn't change the gameplay signficantilly.
an example of this would be: a belt, on which you could store lockpicks and multitools, among other "small" stuff. a chest vest allowing to carry two pistols, or similar sized weapons. the crossbow would still be on the hand. strapped to the legs, we could store shotguns, assalt rifles and similarly sized weapons (one on each leg). and on the back, the more heavily sized weapons, such as the sniper rifle, or the gep gun.
this could pose some limitations, but it'd be far more realistic than DX's inventory system.

Any weapons included in DX2 would have to have some basis in reality, in other words, weapons derived from those that exist today, or are being researched or in the works.
Railgun: A gauss/rail gun would be cool, but there would have to be something to set it aside from the run-of-the-mill railguns in FPS everywhere. With the technology that exists today, magnetic propulsion devices would be one use only, or else you could have something like the grenade launcher in System Shock 2. Still I wouldn't say no to an "I can shoot you thru six walls" railgun like the one in the Unreal Forever mod.
Caseless SMG: The caseless weapons of today are capable of firing at a rate of over 1 million rounds per minute. I'm not making this up. Who needs a minigun? Imagine the mayhem you could cause with one of those.
Laser Weaponry: It's possible to have laser weapons with modern technology. The power source would have to be some kind of chemical cell that you would swap out (like a reload) after each laser burn, and the weapon itself would have to be some kind of heavy weapon. Any kind of laser weapon would be rather large.
Stun Weapons: There's a type of sonic gun supposedly in the works that causes the target to have diarrhea. Again I'm not making this up. I don't know how this would be implemented, but it would be funny to go up to someone, shoot this at their abdomen, and watch them crap their pants.
