I'd like a proper shotgun in Deus Ex 2. The original had that pathetic sawn off thing which I only used once, then threw away, and then it went to the other extreme, with a chain-shot-gun that was also armour piercing - wow! Maybe we could have a normal shotgun, to create a slightly more balanced item between the two extremes.
Howsabout a "Grenade Pistol"? I saw one in Parasite Eve 2 on the Playstation at my friends house, and it rocks.

I want the guns to sound MEATY! MEATY I SAY! I really thought the guns in DX sounded pretty sad when unsilenced.
I'd like to see a dual pistol option. I know it's just cheesy but it's also kinda fun.... I mean Action Quake 2 style of cheesy dual pistol fun. Hell, they wouldn't have to be the same type of pistol even.
Oh, and that wicked gun Lance Henriksen has in Hard Target. They used it in NOLF but I'm not sure if it's called a Bacalov Corrector in real life.
Double Barrelled shotgun! Because you can't fight evil without a shotgun!
Oooh and they CAN work in older guns, what if there was a character who is a firearm collector? That would be cool, you could get an old gun and give it some cosmetic difference, sound, recoil, whatever. It's not different for the effect it has in fighting, but the effect it has on you using it - you know, personal choice of an antique over a new thing.

Hmmm... like some others, I want to see a better mod system. Ideally, you should be able to add and remove mods. In fact, you can really get away with fewer weapons if you have enough variety in mods.
As far as new weapons: Well, for one I'd like to see a laser that blinds your enemies. Also, I'd prefer for items like NV goggles to be rechargable. Maybe some weaponlike augs?
I'd also like for the player to carry less weaponry around, but to have a home base where he/she can store things that may be needed later.
And NEBs shouldn't glow, IMO. They should look more like glass or something, maybe.

it would be better to have a wep you can build on, research on and modify.
like, start with a pistol, then a scope and laser? barrel extender on gun, larger clip. Stuff like deusex original, but instead of the small boxes that just add numbers in the gun specs it should make the gun look diffrent. And then new mods you can do on it, like a larger grip, dual barrels, something to extend to shoulder like the mp5. It kinda makes sence that bots and droids etc of that time might slay other bots or kill ppl and then take their weps and lets say a "thing" pops up on the screen "scanning wep, wep has a new mod you can add on your wep, do you want JC to try and fix this item on gun?" and then, it doesnt have to be just the gun you can build on, lets say JC's boss got all weps, but only standard type so JC got to run around and kill/find all weps he can and modify the standard ones. and at the end of the game you would have a minigunish monster rifle with 1million bullets in one clip. Instead of the mp5 like standard machinegun?? Then again, the fun part of this would be if the moding and wep reasearch could be really extended, i mean BIG. so even if you finish the game and all is joy etc etc you could still have done lots and lots of things with the gun. Would maybe make the competition better even between singleplayer users. "hey i just finished dx2 damn i love my gun, its the Jappa2000 30cm barrel 13,33 mm ap ammo XP edition SOCOM gun" and then friend relpies "ah dude, that sucks, dont you know the sec bot in xxmedlab? got a quadbarrel uranium shard extender and a fleshmolester monsterbite ammo pack to add!!!"
sooooo, you maybe wanna play the game on and one again cause first time you maxed pistol? and now you wanna make a uber sniper rifle that looks like a steyr scout when given to JC and when done it looks like a freekin tank cannon and can do the same dmg as one too.

Or, we could not throw realism out the window, and wake up. It's one thing to stick a scope or laser on a gun, it's another to mill out the frame, rechamber the bolt, replace the barrel, weld another barrel on, blah blah blah.
Do you want realism, or do you want John Q Gunfreak's wetdream?
ReeD on 26/9/2002 at 05:53
well, since this game is placed in the sci-fi future its not a problem to make this work.
Or you can just pop a new gunsmith on liberty island and make him do all the modifying between the missions, if its too far out that JC being the ultra intelligent aug droid that he is can fix this while playing. In any case, it would make the game more interesting, compared to running around with 6-7 diffrent weapons. All you really need is a silenced close combat wep, a long ranged wep and a heavy bot killer.
But if its not a good idea at all, atleast make it a lil ss2 style where you gotta hack the weps to mod em:)..........and a dual barrel mod(changing barrel on a gun shouldnt be that hard. It require the whole gun to be refitted to actually make it shoot 2 bullets at a time but thats not an issue as long as you can see ON the gun, ON the screen that its been moded and it has two barrels on it!!! I cant help it, i love Judge Dredd's lawgiver.

John Q Gunfreaks wet dream. Obviously.

If you can get weapon mods and things from enemies in the game it turns into Pokemon. I don't wanna collect 'em all, damn it!
I say make it realistic. I don't care how far in the future the game is set, there's a limit to the amount of items you can carry on your person before you become suspicious. How about this for an idea: include clothing models because that varies the amount of weapons you can conceal. For example, you score a long coat from somebody and it comes complete with holsters to conceal your assault rifle, sawed-off shotgun, pistol and a few grenades. So you put that coat on when you know you're going to need some firepower, you stock up with ammo and you do your thing. Of course, a garment like that limits your freedom of movement and is fairly conspicous. Alternatively, you could throw on a standard jacket, pop your trusty handgun in a holster and make due with what you've got. Or, hey, throw some weapons in a guitar case a la Desperado. Hell, you could even steal a back pack from a high school locker room, empty it out and use that to store some weapons.
Of course, this would require some "home base," but I'm sure that could be arranged.
As for weapons themselves, I would quite like to see a broader range of non-lethal devices. For one item, think back to the Final Fantasy movie. When those marine characters landed in New York, they broke their fall by firing a grenade filled with a sort of goo which dissipated after a few seconds. Now, imagine if that was an item in DX2. That could definitely add to gameplay possibilities.
For lethal weapons... well, I want a revolver.
ReeD on 7/10/2002 at 07:13
i just want to be able to modify weps ffs. bleh. its so boring adding all the accuracy adjusters and more clip size etc etc when its not showing on the weps itself.
not that walking around with any weps at all is normal these days with metal detectors and stuff, prolly even worse in future.
revolver? Magnum 357:P?? Thats a cool idea, dx2 is in future, and with bots and cameras and gun turrets. lotsa electronics, then most weps are emp based or lasers you know, like demolition man. The best wep in the game is located at a museum in the "wild wild west" section:)

Any kind of revolver would please me. Nice and heavy. Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable. If it no work, you can just hit him with it.
Having them work in metal detectors and other things would be interesting. It would force you to find some way to get your weapons into a building which could provide even more gameplay options. Maybe you could drop a gun or two and a tracking device into a supply crate when a warehouse worker isn't looking, then you could walk in the front door and smile for security.
