Hi new to the forms, firstwent here to figure out how to get SS2 working.
and FYI, game can not be on a network drive. (I tend to install test games on network drives) Also I had to use deamon tools and a downloaded iso. Didn't need compatibility mode.
But anyways I thought the patch allowed one to change how the weapons degraded. But I don't see that option anywhere.
And about the patch, it seems it is already installed or it wont install saying I already have 2.3 (and this is right from a clean install) but I have tried a lot of things to get it working, wouldn't surprise me if I junked up something.
I can't wait to play this game w/ a friend.

You want to screw with the degradation AND run through it with a Counterstrike buddy? Great. Why don't you just urinate on the CD while you're at it?

Oh, great Zylon.. Do explain where your mystical ability to judge others comes from. Because thats a valid question (Albeit an easily answered one).. But nevermind that, because you haven't been an ass on ShockGen lately.
Now for something thats valid to the original post..
First make a backup of the file user.cfg in the SS2 folder and save it.
Using notepad, add the following line to the original user.cfg: gun_degrade_rate 0

Thanks Bluegrime,
Does gun_degrade_rate 1,2,3,4,5 on up increases it's breaking rate? Or is it an on and off thing?
My friends are not gamers (they play RTS's like simcity 1), so the turning off what I read as an overly annoying nuisance sounds like a plus.
I haven't played this yet(past loading first real mission), and chose this game because I have been searching forever for a multiplayer co-opt game.
Also, if anyone knows of any games that can do co-opt mode like the oldies Doom2, hexen, heritic, etc. Let me know. A fantasy based on would be great, like Diablo, but I am sick of that. I can list of dozens of games I have gone over, but anyways.
I think I played a little system shock 1 back in 95/96, where I beat some fatty in an adjoining cell with his own arm.

You are thinking of Bioforge, I believe. I haven't played it (yet), but someone wrote something about that bit in a topic I saw a day or two ago.

It's a gameplay feature, not an annoying nuisance. Turning it off makes the use of the maintenance skill redundant, makes the game (which is already too easy in multiplayer) even easier, and is basically cheating.

Yeah, thats bioforge.
I set weapon degredation to 1 and I still got degrading weapons but I managed to get through a few clips before it broke.
Turning it off is helpfull for a newbie but I suggest going in with it on if you want the full atmosphere.. Theres nothing like the buzz you get when you meet a load of psy monkies and all you have is a pistol in a bad condition and remembering you dropped the wonder wrench for that broken shotgun!

Dropping the wrench? Who would do something like that? :nono:

I know, it was on an early play through but still a bit of a I.D.10.T error

Maybe it comes from his other mystical ability called reading.
Goof, if the game says it's already 2.3 chances are it's right. Turning off weapon degradation in SS2 is like turning off the enemies in Doom. It's stupid and it takes the fun out of the game, especially in multiplayer. Do yourself a favor and try to beat the game as it comes because otherwise every ridicule you get here is well deserved.
