Okay, simple question time guys. I've got the patch, and the readme describes a way you can eliminate Weapon Degradation, or just slow it down. Having played through Shock 2 many times, I thought I'd give it a go.
However, I just don't understand how to get it to work! The readme says "create a Notepad file called user.cfg" and then add the line "gun_degrade_rate <n>" to it, where n=0. This does nothing. What am I doing wrong and how can I eliminate the gun degradation?

How are we supposed to divine what you've done wrong? If you had, in fact, done what the readme says to do, it would have worked.

Are you sure you created user.cfg but not user.cfg.txt?

Okay then - I've created the file in the main Sshock2 folder (which is where I presume it goes). It's called user.cfg, but it registers as a Text Document obviously. It isn't called user.cfg.txt anywhere.
The lines I've tried are "gun_degrade_rate 0" and "gun_degrade_rate <0>". This line is the only text in that file.
Is there anything else I have to do? Is there anything else that has to go in the user.cfg file? Does it not work with the Rebirth mod, which I'm using? Can anyone write a step-by-step guide to how to do it that definitely works (even if I've done everything I should need to)?

My user.cfg does not register as a Text Document, just a CFG file that is viewed by Notepad, not really a TXT file.
So are you 100% sure the extension is CFG but not TXT? Do you have known extensions hidden? I'd disable that flag option if it is enabled in your case, makes renaming much easier if you want to change filetypes.

You tried it? :weird:

Are you implying the instructions in the readme are wrong?

THANK you! That's more like it! I changed it in Folder Options, so yes, it
was user.cfg.txt! Changed it and it's no longer a Text Document. I'll see if it works, and come back.
Incidentally, which one is the proper line to use:
gun_degrade_rate 0
gun_degrade_rate <0>
?

No, I asked myself if you played with reduced weapon degradation. :)
Certainly without the brackets Tingler.
