Because he's faced with problems that simply aren't fixable in 4 years, or even 8.

And that automatically means he will make *worse* decisions about those problems than Bush did/would? You may be confusing his personal competency with the current condition of the country.

Ah don't worry, guys--in 2012 the comet will hit, and it'll all be better.
...so long fucked-up planet, and all the little maniacs whom did the fucking without so much as a reach around.

Will the comet hit before or after the supervolcano explodes?
Queue on 19/1/2009 at 23:51
Hopefully not. I'd hate to miss a super-volcano exploding.

How do you know that? God gave you a proclamation we don't know about?
So we shouldn't even try is that it? MORON, even the dumbfuck Californians
start sandbagging when they see the storm clouds. Only an idiot would stand by saying there's gonna be a mudslide. Nothing we can do about it.
For fucks sake, some people aren't worth saving. You are a prime candidate.

God I love TTLG. "OMG YOU SAY SOMETHING I DISAGREE WITH I'M GOING TO BLOW IT OUT OF PROPORTION AND SAY NASTY THINGS IN THE HOPE OF HATING YOU OFF MY INTERNET"
Anyone who tries to take out more from what I said than what I actually said needs to wipe the foam off their mouth and perhaps go outside for a bit.
Ghostly Apparition may need something a bit stronger, though, I propose horse tranquilizer or perhaps 4000 mg of Valium and a glass of brandy.
I have no idea where you amazing assortment of assfucks got the "we shouldn't try" thing from but that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that the problems Obama faces aren't going to be solved in his presidency- they're deep-rooted issues with decades of incompetence and malfeasance behind them. Stop acting like Obama's going to magically make everything better in a matter of months. He's got a perpetually backwards Congress to contend with- and just because they're mostly Democrat doesn't necessarily mean they're going to go along with him- and the last 8 years have only further entrenched the problems the country faces. The changes we see will be gradual. You're probably not going to really notice it until well into the 2020s or later. There are no quick fixes and the sooner people realize that the better off we'll all be.
Can Obama live up to his promise of "change"? Sure. A simple change of direction will do the nation wonders- but it's not going to be an immediate 180. If you honestly believe it will you're deluded.

Me likey the alliteration.
How may people here are claiming that there will be a 360 degree change? I'm with fett, and I think most people are. Isn't this more about history in the making, and the end of the reign of a man who obliterated the credibility of a nation?
EDIT: On second thoughts, wouldn't a 180 degree change be more effective?
