I actually agree with a lot of what you say. Politicians are full of it, and most are for just lining their pockets etc. I hate the 2 party system too. It sucks and limits choices. Some democracy eh?
What I don't hear from you is what do you think we should do about it?
When was the last time a 3rd party candidate got elected?
I hear a lot of pissing and moaning about how the system sucks but not ever anything positive from you. I don't mean to put words in your mouth but just as you are sick of partisan politics(so am I) I am just as sick of people who go on and on about how it sucks without even so much as suggesting anything, any course of action to change things.
Complaining about the 2 party system and how ALL politicians are corrupt does cause some people to think they CAN"T DO ANYTHING so they choose to do nothing.
Btw: The next time a semi liberal who supports gay marriage and is a fiscal conservative who hates taxes is up for election I'll vote for him, just for you. You might as well tell me he needs to wear green tennis shoes and have a tin foil hat as well. Because the perfect candidate doesn't exist.

You do realize that I did make a suggestion, albeit outlandish/extremely unlikely: fire all of Congress. To put a more realistic spin on this, we vote every last one of them out. The problem is, again, that people are incapable of thinking for themselves and tend to vote party line. It's not that both parties are corrupt that's the root of the problem, it's that PEOPLE KEEP FUCKING VOTING FOR THEM. You want to change American politics you have to change the American voter. They are the ones who keep these collossal motherfuckers in power by voting for them over and over. How the hell has Nancy Pelosi managed to stay in office for so long? Or people like Strom Thurmond, who only left office because he was 100 and was ill?
I realize there's no such thing as a perfect candidate. If they brought in some dude who was a social liberal/fiscal conservative, NOBODY WOULD VOTE FOR HIM (you and I excluded, and you'd just be doing it as a favour.) And that's the fucking problem- too many people are single-issue voters who are incapable of honestly thinking out their voting decisions.

I think the crux of the problem is there is really not a lot of other choice.
The third party candidates by and large are not viable or at least a vast majority of the population sees it that way. So they feel if they don't vote for one of the 2 major parties they are throwing their vote away.
Other than that I agree with everything you just said. I especially like the Strom Thurmond reference, I couldn't agree with you more.
Want another example? How in the HELL does that little weasel who stands for nothing but himself, Joe Lieberman keep getting elected? God that pisses me off.
What does Joe Lieberman stand for? What day is today? and which way is the wind blowing? He is such a whiny little bastard, I can't stand him.
Edit: Maybe we should start a movement to only vote for people who haven't run for office before. For the next 6 years worth of elections. Ya think that might send a message?
Just throwing it out there. Of course, there will be those who'll say if you do that you'll only be electing people with no experience. I for one would be willing to risk it. surely can't be worse than what we've been getting.
