No, by all means contribute so that we have generous manifestations of your ignorance to relentlessly mock. This court is nothing without a jester!
Much later: aimed at afih and not Jason, obviously.

I know you don't mean this as such, but this is a powerful insult.
Some perspective: For 8 years, #43 was pretty much an insult to the world and to the US and a disgrace of a prez, so if Matthew's post was an insult we're not even close to even yet. :p
(As a Frenchman, I say congrats too, but we still have this small issue at home of that bling-bling marionette with ADD and delusions of grandeur... Soooo looking forward to 2012  )
I followed the stream live on CNN on and off while I was working. Really cool to see so many people gathered there. :) The image that stuck for some reason was Yo-Yo Ma playing his cello with such communicative energy and joy. As to the poem, well, let's say I was working during that one.

I'm just going to say that I was really dissapointed with the speech - which surprised me, because I had low expectations. To my eyes, it was full of untruths, that I imagine were only put there for pandering or emotional manipulation. Spectacularly wrong? Not so much. Usually I like being right (one of my worst habits) but this time I'm just bummed. This was the moment when I could have been shaken up, been shown that my cynicism was misplaced. Alas, it was not to be.
That said, I did like the acknowledgment of non-believers. That was the kind of "progress" I was looking for.

Edit: The fact that you somehow believe that government employees are inherently superior to every other human being is laughable.
A perfect distillation of the thread thus far, top notch job there :thumb:
This is so surreal, and by this I mean not afic's tired windmills of shit so much as President Obama/ no more Bush. It's still sinking in.
kidmystik101 on 20/1/2009 at 21:53
Hmm, waiting for someone to upload the supposed obama smackdown of bush to youtube so I can watch it. Damned Australian timezones means it was on at like 3 in the morning or some such.
Also, GG America, that shitfarming texan is finally out of office and his replacment MIGHT ACTUALLY NOT fuck shit up.

The government can't fix things, it can only break them.
This is not some indisputed fact, it's fringe libertarian thinking. Repeating it like a mantra will not get you far.

No one has actually said this.
3: When Matthew of all people is telling you to fuck off, you've gone wrong somewhere.

The best moment was watching that helicopter leaving town--you knew the nightmare was finally over.
Does that mean Mr. Obama is going to be a great president, the end of this "era"? Who knows. I believe he will be, and is more than capable of being. I certainly do hold high hopes for him, but I am a realist. The country is hideously fucked up (thanks a less than wonderful government on a whole), and most of the world hates us even more than normal (thanks to King George)--the next four years will be an uphill battle against a machine so heinous and unyielding that to even think things are just going to be even remotely better anytime soon is almost comical. It's going to be one difficult battle after another to implement the change we so desperately need.
But, beyond that, we finally have a new president--which means it's time to start the endless jokes and ribbing. The White House ain't so white anymore is it, BEYOTCH!!

Just read through a transcript of his Inaugural Address - seems quite positive! "We will restore science to its rightful place", acknowledgement of non-believers, a sensible stance on free market vs regulation. And lots of "this won't be easy but we can do it" style optimism.
