To paraphrase Gerald Ford, our long national nightmare is almost over: after eight years of the most arrogant, doctrinaire, fanatical, incompetent, and unethical administration the United States has ever suffered, we are finally close to a return to sanity.
I've been living in a state of apprehension for months, fearing W was going to something arrogant, stupid, ill-considered, or just plain insane, and at last the end to that fear is in sight. I'm halfway convinced that the economic meltdown was a blessing in disguise, for without the public's backlash against the Rebelpublicans they would still be backing W's agenda, and God only knows what he would have done with that. A Lame Duck imbecile with nothing to lose, with his enemies due to usurp his throne succeed him, still possessed of the self-deluded belief that he is absolutely in the right - that he has absolute right, obediently supported by his minions? The mind reels. The bowels clench.
I don't know about any of you but I plan to go out and get good and drunk Tuesday night. Given how many people in the world have cause to celebrate, I will go on record here by forecasting a global epidemic of hangovers wednesday morning.

Let's hope he didn't have a clue about the corruption in Illinois.

According to the articles that I've read, Obama sussed out that the Blagger was a mess waiting to happen almost from the beginning and was involved with him only as much as political expediency necessitated.

Congrats for Obama; boo at my teacher for having a test that day. I do NOT want to be on a college campus on Inauguration day.

So U.S. Senators don't have the power to remove corrupt officials, or even to start an investigation? Oh well, maybe as President Obama will see to it that states are run legally and fairly. Of course the more widespread the rot is, the harder it will be, but every process has to start somewhere.

I'm looking forwards to this. What time of the day will it be on? I'd love to catch it all live on TV but I'll probably be at work or asleep.

I love the people (Libertarians) who spout off that the individual states should have more power, especially when you have Governors like "Blow-job-avich", and the chick from Fargo.
...still wish someone would stuff her in a bag and drive her to Brainerd.

I honestly don't care about the inaugration. I know I should, but I'm so tired of everything be "historic." I expect there will be hours of pomp, ceremony, and political posturing. Too many people are watching for Obama - or anyone - to say much of substance.
I hope to be wrong, of course - hopefully it will be totally awesome and I'll feel like a moron for not watching it and will track it down on Youtube.

Expect Obama to jettison the usual political victory lap speech and instead turn on the old community organizer within and reach out to
us for service.
In other words, you'll be spectacularly wrong.
