We do drugs itt. - by The Alchemist

Re:KoOK - what the hell? The “perspective” I was offering was the one "do you really have to continue to experiment with substances, which by design, screw up already delicate brain chemistry just to fulfil the need to experience something new... have you considered the option of not taking ANY drug.?" The narrow-mindedness I was talking about is the inability of some – YOU - to even give credit to that perfectly valid option. The majority of reaction on the forum to my apparent “anti-drugs” “perspective” was acceptance and dismissal, admittedly I had predicted my thoughts to only be a very minor interjection to the discussion but you pissed me off. You came rushing in with crap sarcasm, belittling my comments with faux simplifications of the motivations behind the valid decision/choice to seek alternative thrills in life (ones that aren’t only just literally
in your mind… Oops sorry that is my problem in the comprehension of the motivation of some people to chase extremely isolated and fairly ineffectual pretty colours or fleeting new thoughts that are brought on by the calculated and deliberate decision to take “drugs” – and KoOK has apparently declared such a view is not valid as I can only guess because he doesn’t think it is cool enough)
Quote:
One of the biggest problems I have with people who have anti-drug attitudes is that they set out with the notion that drugs are bad even before they build their supporting arguments.
I am not particularly anti-drugs, I just personally have an overwhelming disinterest (towards drugs, not so much the motivation behind WHY people take them, I am actually interested in that - which is why I was reading this thread in the first place)

Are we really going to come out and say that our brothers and mothers are brain-damaged people?
It is well noted that contemporary, the concentration of abused substances is generally far greater than the same stuff in the 60's and 70's and as a matter of fact...

I know far too many alcoholics (IMHO social and real addiction to both is MUCH more common that people are willing to admit - such as the whole of scottish/brittish youth culture) and pot heads (I have lived a sheltered and privileged life, I knew very few junkies) to even give a second thought to this sort of rubbish
So that is a yes for me then – I am defiantly under the impression that the frighteningly high rate of suicide in young men in the north of Scotland is tied to the culture of substance abuse.

- to the point of dismissing them? yet apparently
I am the idiot. (then again I did type bretray when I meant PORtray
I fear I have blown this out of proportion and I should have just taken KoOK’s dumb ass sarcasm on the chin, yet I tire of hearing such predictably stupid reactions to the suggestion of not taking drugs in real life where substance use and abuse is the norm and did not expect it on this board. His cack handed insulting of such views irked me.

Here is a thought alchemist - try taking up a new hobbie instead of chasing an artifical buzz. - hell have you tried meditating or yoga?
This, on the other hand, is an example of a predictably stupid (and tiresome) reaction to the suggesting of
taking drugs, so where does that leave us?
Coming across as a sanctimonious prick tends to encourage the kind of "cack handed insulting" that irks you so.

Substance use.
Substance abuse.
Learn the difference between the two terms :thumb:
Once you've done that, I want you to come up with a wacky theory as to why the suicide rates among men in Japan, Finland, Korea, Switzerland
et cetera are even higher than the rate in SUBSTANCE ABUSE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD: SCOTLAND.

A prefix signifying irregularity. But if you can't tell the difference between regularity and irregulaty, is there any difference??blahblablag

(Also, which Korea? The entire stab is probably hinging on that.)
How's that?

No, seriously - that sort of view point and suggestion into a similar discussion in real life scotland is actually original and is not meant to be sanctimonious but an honest suggestion of what is a possible and not previously considered alternative. Folk here would seriously work their way through a list of stuff to get high before considering perhaps doing something else with a weekend - sorry for sounding sanctimonious.
As for the difference between use and abuse when the reason is for blocking out reality what is considered use is pretty much actually abuse. Suicide rates compared to scotland - scotland is pretty small, I would love to actually get the figures to compare, but it is bloody high in the north of scotland (young men at least) compared to well, whatever is normally compared when reports are published about young men taking their own life.

Temporarily escaping from reality is not necessarily abuse. Like I said, learn the difference between use and abuse.

I'm well aware that suicide rates are higher in Scotland than England, but it's a bit of a leap to say that an alleged higher rate of substance (ab)use is directly linked to that.

Although I definately agree that drugs are demonised, what other things can you form a dependency on that will destroy you? A bloke in my grade at school started belting up his parents to give him money to pay for his drug problem, he's so messed up now he's lost the ability to talk. Unfortunately drugs are one of many things (like driving a car) where people usually don't consider the risks before diving in.
Ask any seasoned drug user whether getting into drugs is a good idea or not and I can pretty much tell you what the response will be...

Unless your guess is "Sure, just be careful not to let it get out of hand" you're likely incorrect.
Actually, I doubt you could guess anyway. I know some people who would say "DUDE U HAVE TO GET FUCKED UP CONSTANTLY ITS GREAT" and I know people who would say "Stay right away from that shit, take it from me" and I know more people than both previous categories combined who would repeat the words of Piglick to the effect of "Excess is bad, I don't care if you're talking about heroin or skiing. There's a reason it's called Too Much."

Let's be clear on one thing. At no point in this thread, or even in my entire life, did I ever say anything negative about leading a drug-free life. I also heard virgins say that life of abstenance is a wonderful alternative to risking STDs and unwanted pregnancy, which isn't exactly a wrong thing to say. In either case, you're a little too late. Don't come into an AA meeting and lecture people who've had all kinds of experiences, when the only thing you know personally about alcohol is that it gets people drunk. You know little about the human brain, and you certainly know nothing about drugs, so I don't see how you know enough to lecutre as to what happens when those two come together.
